Sidney James (born Solomon Joel Cohen; 8 May 1913 – 26 April 1976) was a British actor and comedian whose career encompassed radio, television, stage and screen. He was best known for numerous roles in the Carry On film series. Born to a middle-class Jewish family in South Africa, James started his career in his native country before finding his greatest success in the UK. Beginning his screen career playing bit parts in films from 1947, he was cast in numerous small and supporting roles into the 1950s. Sidney William Jackson (12 June 1873 – 30 September 1946) was an Australian naturalist and field ornithologist with a special interest in oology, who was also a skilled photographer and taxidermist. History Jackson was born in Brisbane, Queensland, and educated at Toowoomba Grammar School and in Grafton, New South Wales. From his youth he developed an interest in birds and in collecting their eggs. Sidney Homer
Sidney Homer, Sr. (9 December 1864 – 10 July 1953) was a classical composer, primarily of songs. Biography Homer was the youngest child born to deaf parents in Boston, Massachusetts on December 9, 1864 (some sources use 1865). He attended the 1884 class of Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, but did not attend college, although he studied composition with George Whitefield Chadwick and with Josef Rheinberger in Munich. He married contralto Louise Dilworth Beatty in 1895. Sidney and Louise had six children, including twin daughters Anne Homer and Kathryn Homer, son Sidney Homer, Jr. (economist and author), and daughter Louise Homer. Sidney Homer died on July 10, 1953 in Winter Park, Florida. Legacy Sidney Homer's influence included his mentoring and supporting his nephew, the composer Samuel Barber. Sidney "Sonny" Hertzberg (July 29, 1922 – July 25, 2005) was an American professional basketball player. Early life Hertzberg was born in Brooklyn, New York, grew up in Crown Heights, and was Jewish. Hertzberg played at Samuel J. Tilden High School and City College of New York, where he was a teammate of longtime Knicks coach Red Holzman. Professional career Hertzberg began his professional career in 1946, signing with his home team New York Knicks. Sidney Hadden (26 August 1877 – 2 November 1934) was an English cricketer. Hadden's batting style is unknown, but it is known he fielded as a wicket-keeper. He was born at Hastings, Sussex. He made his first-class debut for Essex against Derbyshire in the 1912 County Championship. He made three further first-class appearances in 1912, following World War I he made two further appearances for Essex in the 1920 County Championship against Gloucestershire and Middlesex. In his total of six first-class appearances, he scored 29 runs at an average of 9.66, with a high score of 17 not out. Behind the stumps he took 5 catches and made a single stumping. Hadden died at Whipps Cross, Essex on 2 November 1934. Sidney Rodrigue Noukpo Govou (born 27 July 1979) is a French former professional footballer who played primarily as a winger, but was occasionally deployed as a striker. Sidney Gordon (August 13, 1917 – June 17, 1975) was an American right-handed Major League Baseball two-time All-Star outfielder, third baseman, and first baseman. He had a 13-year career in MLB for the New York Giants (1941–43, 1946–49, and 1955), Boston / Milwaukee Braves (1950–53), and Pittsburgh Pirates (1954–55). Gordon was one of the Giants' most popular players. In the majors he batted .283, hitting 202 home runs, and batting in 805 runs. Sidney Alexander Gordin (1918–1996) was a Russian-born American artist and educator, known for his abstract paintings, prints, and sculptures. He was a Professor Emeritus at University of California, Berkeley, where he taught from 1958 to 1986. Gordin was associated with abstract expressionism and constructivism. Sidney Leslie Goodwin
The Unknown Child refers to the initially unidentified body of Sidney Leslie Goodwin, a 19-month-old British toddler who was recovered by the ''Mackay-Bennett'' after the sinking of the RMS ''Titanic''. For almost a century, Goodwin's gravestone in the Fairview Cemetery read "Erected to the memory of an unknown child whose remains were recovered after the disaster to the Titanic April 15th 1912". Initial DNA testing in 2002 pointed to third class passenger Eino Viljami Panula as the probable individual; however, subsequent testing in 2007 conclusively identified the child's remains as those of fellow third class toddler Sidney Leslie Goodwin.
