Sic Squared Records
Sic Squared Records is an Australian independent record label established in 1999 to promote Western Australian heavy rock bands. History Founded by Adam Scott, the label's debut release was by local band T-cells, the label gained nation recognition with the release of the hugely successful Heavy Weight Champ debut EP, ''Two Triple Zero'' in mid 2000. With over a dozen releases so far, Sic Squared Records has assisted the musical careers of bands such as Local Pricks and Karnivool, releasing the band's ''Persona'' EP in March 2001, as well as putting out compilation albums featuring an array of unsigned local acts. Sic Squared Records are distributed nationally and internationally by MGM Distribution. 2004 saw new life breathed into Sic Squared Records with the appointment of a new manager for the label, Lukas Best, with a number of releases, ''Still Life Portrait'' by Antistatic, ''Ballbaring'' by Subtruck and ''451'' by Headshot. MGM Distribution
MGM Distribution (Metropolitan Groove Merchants) is the largest independent distributor of Australian music and music related merchandise and was established in April 1998 by Sebastian Chase. MGM Distribution was specifically set up as a distribution hub to service independent labels and artists. MGM Distribution is totally focused on a specific agenda - dealing with retail, promoting its releases to retail, ensuring that orders are filled correctly and dispatched expediently. MGM is not a label and does not sign artists. MGM as a distributor requires that the labels market their releases to the media to create demands that causes sell through at retail. MGM Distribution is a major financial supporter of the JB Seed grant program, an arts grants fund established by John Butler in 2005, in addition to their support of the Australian Music Prize. Australian Independent Record Labels Association
The Australian Independent Record Labels Association (commonly known as AIR), formerly Association of Independent Record Labels, is a non-profit trade association which supports the growth and development of Australia's independent recording industry. It represents Australian-owned record labels and independent artists based in Australia who function without the backing of major record labels. AIR was founded in 1996 in Sydney and is now located in Melbourne. Subtruck
Subtruck was a heavy groove rock band that was formed in 1998 in Perth, Western Australia by singer and guitarist Phil Bradley, previously of The Jackals. The band split up in 2007. Biography Subtruck released their debut eponymous EP in 2000 before signing to Sic Squared Records in 2001. Their first album for Sic Squared Records, ''Songs to Whistle at War'', was released in 2002, and lead to their inclusion on several compilations including 'Left of Centre 2', 'S.L.A.M. 2002' and 'Foot in the Door'. 2003 saw them support iconic Australian alternative acts The Mark of Cain and the Lime Spiders on the West Australian legs of their respective national tours. Department Of Culture And The Arts
The Department of Culture and the Arts was part of the Government of Western Australia. Preceding authorities The earlier governmental agencies or authorities concerning the arts were advisory boards or councils; it was not until 1986 that the department for the Arts was created.
