Sibiu Cycling Tour
The Sibiu Cycling Tour (Cycling Tour of Sibiu until 2015) is a 2.1 category professional Road bicycle racing, bicycle road race held in Sibiu, Romania. Its first edition took place in July 2011, as part of the UCI Europe Tour. The race is organised with the support of the local council as well as the regional council of Sibiu. Held entirely around the city, the race normally runs over four days including a Individual time trial, prologue on the cobbled streets of the city, and two climbing stages, one on the Transfăgărăşan, Transfăgărăşan Road to Bâlea Lac and a second to the mountain resort of Păltiniș. 2016 Sibiu Cycling Tour
The 2016 Sibiu Cycling Tour took place between July 6 and July 10, after a one-week delay due to local elections. It opened with the traditional prologue and for the first time featured a mountain time trial to Bâlea Lac. It featured four pro-continental teams, including, for the first time, a British team, ONE Pro Cycling. It was won by Nikolay Mihaylov (cyclist), Nikolay Mihaylov after he was part of a breakaway on Stage 2. It was notable for its first Romanian stage winner, Andrei Nechita, who won the opening prologue; and for its first Australian stage winner, Steele von Hoff. A team time trial (TTT) is a road bicycle race in which teams of cyclists race against the clock (see individual time trial for a more detailed description of ITT events). The winning team in a TTT is determined by the comparing the times of (usually) the fourth-finishing rider in each team (though the relevant finish position can be otherwise specified in advance by the race organisers). This means that each team will try to get their first four (at least) riders across the finish line in a tight group: it is actually a disadvantage for any rider to finish far in advance of the fourth rider, as by staying back a faster rider can help the fourth rider to get a quicker time.
