Sibbesse is a former ''Samtgemeinde'' ("collective municipality") in the district of Hildesheim, in Lower Saxony, Germany. Its seat was in the village Sibbesse. On 1 November 2016 it was dissolved. Samtgemeinde
A ''Samtgemeinde'' (; plural: ''Samtgemeinden'') is a type of administrative division in Lower Saxony, Germany. ''Samtgemeinden'' are local government associations of municipality, municipalities, equivalent to the ''Amt (administrative division), Ämter'' in Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, and Brandenburg, and the ''Verbandsgemeinden'' in Rhineland-Palatinate. Function A ''Samtgemeinde'' is a Government agency, government body composed of a collective association of ''Gemeinde (Germany), gemeinden'' (municipality, municipalities), the lowest level of official territorial division in Germany. ''Samtgemeinden'' were introduced in Lower Saxony on 4 March 1955 upon the adoption of the Lower Saxony Municipal Code (''Niedersächsische Gemeindeordnung''), which was based on United Kingdom, British administrative structures at the time. Hildesheim (district)
Hildesheim is a district (''Landkreis'') in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is bounded by (from the north and clockwise) the districts of Hanover, Peine, Wolfenbüttel, Goslar, Northeim, Holzminden and Hamelin-Pyrmont. History In 1885 the Prussian government established districts within the Province of Hanover. The present territory of the district was occupied by four districts: Hildesheim, Alfeld, Gronau and Marienburg. In 1932 the district of Gronau joined Alfeld, and the number of districts was reduced to three. When the state of Lower Saxony was founded in 1946, the districts were reorganised: Hildesheim became an urban district, the remaining district of Hildesheim and Marienburg were merged to the new district of Hildesheim-Marienburg. Eberholzen
Eberholzen is a village and a former municipality in the district of Hildesheim in Lower Saxony, Germany. Since 1 November 2016, it is part of the municipality Sibbesse. History Eberholzen is a very old village. The first mention of the village, which was originally called ''Eilbereholthusen'', was in a document which was written in 1240.Hildesheimer Allgemeine Zeitung: p.21, 27 February 2010. According to this document Eberholzen was tributary to a monastery in the nearby village of Escherde. Sights The tower of the Protestant church dates back to the 12th century. A medieval stone coffin can be seen in front of the church. According to a legend, it belonged to ''Ritter von Eberhardt'', a knight who was banned and not buried on the cemetery of Eberholzen. Westfeld
Westfeld is a village and a former municipality in the district of Hildesheim (district), Hildesheim in Lower Saxony, Germany. Since 1 November 2016, it is part of the municipality Sibbesse. Sights Westfeld consists of two villages, Westfeld and Wrisbergholzen. Wrisbergholzen, the smaller village, has various sights to offer. * Wrisbergholzen Castle which was built 1740 to 1745 is famous for its Faience Hall dating from 1752. Its walls are covered with about 800 faiences with words in Italian, Latin and French. * The former Faience Manufactory which was founded in 1736 as a "Porcellain Fabrique" can be visited opposite the castle. * Saint Martin's Church is a Protestant church dedicated to Saint Martin of Tours, a French saint. The church tower was built in the 12th century. Inside the church there are various baroque paintings and an interesting wooden vault ceiling.
