Siân James (novelist)
Siân James (20 September 1930 – 21 July 2021) was a Welsh novelist, academic and translator, who wrote in English. Her third novel, '' A Small Country'', is seen as a classic of Anglo-Welsh literature. Her 1996 short-story collection '' Not Singing Exactly'' won the English-language category in Wales Book of the Year, the first book by a woman to do so. Birth and academic posts James, born in Coed-y-bryn in Ceredigion, attended the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. She was a Fellow of the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, and of the Welsh Academy. She taught on the University of Glamorgan's Masters' degree in Creative Writing. She was later awarded an honorary doctorate by the university for her contribution to literature in Wales. Siân Catherine James (born 24 June 1959) is a Welsh Labour Party politician, who was Member of Parliament (MP) for Swansea East from 2005 to 2015. Early life She spent most of her childhood in the Swansea Valley, where her parents ran a public house. She attended Cefn Saeson Comprehensive School on Afan Valley Road in Cimla, Neath. James married at age 16 and had two children by age 20. Living as a young housewife, James said: "As long as my lace curtains were the cleanest, my children immaculately dressed, their hand-knitted clothes made with love, I was happy." During the 1984 miners' strike, James helped feed over 1,000 families a week from nine different centres. After the strike, James decided to take her A-Levels, before attending Swansea University. Siân James (musician)
Siân James (born 24 December 1961) is a Welsh traditional folk singer and harpist who has recorded for Sain and BBC Records as well as her own label, Bos. A native of the Mid Wales village of Llanerfyl in Powys, Siân James participated, from an early age, in local eisteddfodau, playing the piano, the violin and later the harp. While still a student at Llanfair Caereinion High School, she began composing her own songs and arranging traditional Welsh music. She went on to read music at the University of Wales, Bangor. She is also well known for her acting work on Welsh language television. Having been a recording artist for Sain and BBC Records, James has, in the 2000s, recorded her work for Bos at her home studio in Llanerfyl. Sean James (born March 15, 1969, in Meridian, Mississippi) is a former American football player and activist who signed as a rookie free agent with the Minnesota Vikings (1991–1992).
