Shymkent (; Шымкент, Şymkent), known until 1993 as Chimkent ( uz, Çımkent, چىمكېنت; Yañalif: Çimkent ()); russian: Чимкент, translit=Chimkent (), is a city in Kazakhstan. It is near the border with Uzbekistan. It is one of three Kazakh cities which have the status equal to that of a Regions of Kazakhstan, region (“city of republican significance”). It is the List of most populous cities in Kazakhstan, third-most populous city in Kazakhstan, behind Almaty and Astana, with an estimated population of 1,002,291 . According to regional and city officials, the millionth resident of Shymkent was born on 17 May 2018. It is a regional cultural centre. Shymkent is situated west of Almaty and south of Astana. It is also to the north of Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Shymkent City Mäslihat
The Shymkent City Mäslihat () is a Unicameralism, unicameral legislature of the city of Shymkent. The councillors of the City Mäslihat are elected concurrently with the MP's of the Mazhilis. Composition The City Mäslihat is composed of 29 councillors who are represented by single-member constituency and are elected by a secret ballot every 5 years according to the Clause 2 of Article 86 of the Constitution of Kazakhstan, Section VIII "Local state government and self-government". However, on 23 May 2018, it was announced that all members of Mäslihat bodies will be elected through proportional representation. The Ordabassy Square also well-known as ''Al Farabi Square'' is a crossing in the city Shymkent (Kazakhstan), at the intersection of three main streets bearing the names of three wise Kazakh leader, who laid the foundation of unity of the Kazakh people: Tole Bi, Ayteke Bi and Kazybek Bi at the village Ordabassy near the city. Independence Monument The Independence Monument in located in the center of the Ordabassy Square and is a 34-meter three-edged stele supporting an eight-meter female figure "Zher-ana" - "Mother Earth". Köppen Climate Classification
The Köppen climate classification is one of the most widely used climate classification systems. It was first published by German-Russian climatologist Wladimir Köppen (1846–1940) in 1884, with several later modifications by Köppen, notably in 1918 and 1936.
