''Shyamali'' (Bengali: শ্যামলী) is a 1956 Indian Bengali-language romantic drama film directed by Ajoy Kar and stars Kaberi Bose as the title character Shyamali. Uttam Kumar stars in this movie as the male protagonist. The film based on the novel in same name of Nirupama Devi. Music director of the film Kalipada Sen. The film was remade in Tamil in 1966 as ''Kodimalar''. Plot Shyamali (kabari basu) was a deaf and mute girl. Nobody used to give her much attention. Uttam Kumar ( bn, উত্তম কুমার; born Arun Kumar Chattopadhyay; 3 September 1926 – 24 July 1980), popularly known as the Mahanayak, was an Indian actor, producer, director, Screenwriter, script writer, composer, and singer who predominantly worked in Cinema of West Bengal, Bengali cinema. Ajoy Kar
Ajoy Kar (Bengali:অজয় কর; 27 March 1914 – 25 January 1985) was an Indian film director and cinematographer . He directed 26 films between 1949 and 1983. His 1961 film ''Saptapadi'' was entered into the 3rd Moscow International Film Festival. Ajoy Kar provided a whole new expression to Bengali cinema. His 1971 film ''Malyadan'' won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Bengali. Early life Ajoy Kar was born on 27 March 1914, in Calcutta, British India. He left college in 1931 to become a professional photographer, and took up cinematography a few years later. ''Kodimalar'' is a 1966 Indian Tamil-language drama film written and directed by C. V. Sridhar. The film stars Muthuraman and R. Vijayakumari, with A. V. M. Rajan, Nagesh, M. V. Rajamma and Kanchana in supporting roles. It is a remake of the Bengali film '' Shyamali'' (1956), itself based on Debnarayan Gupta's play of the same name. Nirupama Devi ( bn, নিরুপমা দেবী) (7 May 1883 – 7 January 1951) was a fiction writer from Berhampore in Murshidabad district. Her literary pseudonym was ''Srimati Devi''. Muthuraman Radhakrishnan (4 July 1929 – 16 October 1981) was an Indian actor who predominantly appeared in Tamil language films. He was a leading actor during the 1960s and 1970s and was fondly called as ''Navarasa Thilagam''. He had paired with all the leading heroines of his time and acted in over a hundred films. Muthuraman's son Karthik is also a popular Tamil actor and politician, and his grandson Gautham Karthik is also an actor who made his debut in '' Kadal'' (2013).
