Shuswap Nation Tribal Council
The Shuswap Nation Tribal Council is a First Nations Tribal Council in the Canadian province of British Columbia. Based in the Thompson and Shuswap Districts of the Central Interior, although including one band on the upper Columbia River in the East Kootenay region. It is one of two tribal councils of the Secwepemc people, the other being the Northern Shuswap Tribal Council of the Cariboo region farther to the north. The council is based in Kamloops, British Columbia. Northern Shuswap Tribal Council
The Northern Shuswap Tribal Council is a First Nations government in the Canadian province of British Columbia. Based in the Cariboo District of the Central Interior, it is one of two tribal councils of the Secwepemc people, the other being the Shuswap Nation Tribal Council of the Thompson- Shuswap region farther south. Shuswap Indian Band
The Shuswap Indian Band (Shuswap language: Kenpesq’t ) is a member government of the Shuswap Nation Tribal Council and also of the Ktunaxa Kinbasket Tribal Council, located in the East Kootenay region of the Canadian province of British Columbia. Its main reserve, the Shuswap Indian Reserve, is located one mile north of Invermere, British Columbia in the Columbia Valley region of the Rocky Mountain Trench on the upper Columbia River, on the other side of the Selkirk Mountains from other Secwepemc bands. It was created when the government of the then-Colony of British Columbia established an Indian reserve system in the 1860s. Shuswap Indian Reserve
The Shuswap Indian Reserve is a First Nations reserve in the Columbia Valley region of British Columbia, Canada, located on the left bank of the Columbia River, north of Invermere. Shuswap Language
The Shuswap language (; shs, Secwepemctsín ) is the traditional language of the Shuswap people ( shs, Secwépemc ) of British Columbia. An endangered language, Shuswap is spoken mainly in the Central and Southern Interior of British Columbia between the Fraser River and the Rocky Mountains. According to the First Peoples' Cultural Council, 200 people speak Shuswap as a mother tongue, and there are 1,190 semi-speakers. Shuswap is the northernmost of the Interior Salish languages, which are spoken in Canada and the Pacific Northwest of the United States. Shuswap River
The basin of the Shuswap River (pronounced /ˈʃuːʃwɑːp/) lies northeast of the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia, originating in the central Monashee Mountains. It is the upper part of the drainage better known to British Columbians as belonging to Shuswap Lake and the South Thompson River. The river's drainage basin is over in area. Geography The river is in three sections, an upper part beginning at Joss Pass, at the northern end of the Sawtooth Range of the Monashees and emptying into Sugar Lake southeast of the south end of that range. Shuswap Lake
Shuswap Lake (pronounced /ˈʃuːʃwɑːp/) is a lake located in the southern interior of British Columbia, Canada that drains via the Little Shuswap River into Little Shuswap Lake. Little Shuswap Lake is the source of the South Thompson River, a branch of the Thompson River, a tributary of the Fraser River. It is at the heart of a region known as the Columbia Shuswap or "the Shuswap", noted for its recreational lakeshore communities including the city of Salmon Arm. Shuswap Lake Provincial Park
Shuswap Lake Provincial Park is a provincial park in British Columbia, Canada. Shuswap Lake Provincial Park is located in the community of Scotch Creek, on the north shore of the main arm of Shuswap Lake in the Southern Interior of BC. The park is about 45 minutes north (by road) of Salmon Arm, and about 1 hour east of Kamloops. The park contains a large campground with approximately 275 camping sites, as well as a large sand and gravel beach and day use/picnic area.
