Shrewsbury F.C. was a football club based in Shrewsbury, England. The club is recorded as playing its home games at Monkmoor Lane, Shrewsbury. History The club was formed in 1868 and its first match was on 22 January that year, a 3–2 defeat at a side from Whitchurch. The club seems to have gone into abeyance, as it was re-founded in 1875 with 30 members. By 1879 the club had 80 members. The club's captain from 1876 to 1880 was John Hawley Edwards, who also played for Shropshire Wanderers and Wanderers. The club was an early member of the Birmingham Football Association and first came to prominence in 1877 by beating Stafford Road F.C., who had reached that season's Birmingham Senior Cup final, in a friendly. The following season, the club won both the Birmingham Senior Cup and the Shropshire Senior Cup. Monkmoor is a suburb located in the north-east of the town of Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England. It is connected to the suburbs of Underdale and Abbey Foregate. The ward's population in 2015 was 4,451. Wednesbury () is a market town in Sandwell in the county of West Midlands, England. It is located near the source of the River Tame. Historically part of Staffordshire in the Hundred of Offlow, at the 2011 Census the town had a population of 37,817. Henry Wace (footballer)
Henry Wace (21 September 1853 – 5 November 1947) was an English amateur footballer who made three appearances for England and played for Wanderers, with whom he won the FA Cup in 1877 and 1878. By profession he was a lawyer who specialised in bankruptcy law. Football career Wace was born in Shrewsbury, and educated at Shrewsbury School and St. John's College, Cambridge. He won blues in both association football and rugby in 1874 and 1875. In the 1875 ''Football Annual'', Wace was described as "a very good and dangerous 'centre' (who) plays pluckily and sticks to the ball; at times (he) gets a little too far forward". He made his debut for Wanderers on 18 March 1871, when aged only 17, in a 2–0 victory over the Forest Club, when he played as the twelfth man. Oswestry ( ; ) is a market town, civil parish and historic railway town in Shropshire, England, close to the Welsh border. It is at the junction of the A5, A483 and A495 roads. Wednesbury Old Athletic, often referred to as W.O.A.C., was an English association football club based in Wednesbury, West Midlands (Staffordshire at the time). There were three clubs that had this name. Original club The first began life as the Wednesbury Literary & Athletic Institute in October 1874, adopting the more familiar title of Wednesbury Old Athletic Club (WOAC for short) the following year. Shropshire Senior Cup
The Shropshire Senior Cup is a county cup football competition that is open for professional and non-professional senior football teams in the English county of Shropshire. The competition is one of the oldest cup competitions in the world, and notably, the original winning trophy is still presented to the winners, some 130 years after the Cup's inception. It is organised by the Shropshire Football Association and is annual. The competition was first staged in the 1877–78 season, the inaugural winners being Shrewsbury F.C, who beat Wellington Parish Church Institute 1–0. (Shrewsbury F.C are not connected to the current Shrewsbury Town, and dissolved late in 1879.)
