Shrewsbury Castle Blues F.C.
Shrewsbury Castle Blues F.C. was a football club based in Shrewbury, England. The club are recorded as playing their home games at the Racecourse at Monkmoor. History Castle Blues were formed around 1877 by grammar school old boys, and initially played at Sutton Lane. In 1881 the Shrewsbury Engineers were amalgamated into the club. The club entered the Welsh Cup in 1881–82, and again in 1884–85, and 1885–86. The club were a very rough team and were forced to disband by the Birmingham FA in April 1886. The club ceased to exist in that month and was absorbed into Shrewsbury Town when they were reformed in May 1886. On 27 September 1884, a match versus Aston Villa was abandoned 1-1 after all the match balls were burst possibly on purpose by the home team players and home supporters. Monkmoor is a suburb located in the north-east of the town of Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England. It is connected to the suburbs of Underdale and Abbey Foregate. The ward's population in 2015 was 4,451. Clapham () is a suburb in south west London, England, lying mostly within the London Borough of Lambeth, but with some areas (most notably Clapham Common) extending into the neighbouring London Borough of Wandsworth. History Early history The present day Clapham High Street is on the route of a Roman road. The road is recorded on a Roman monumental stone found nearby. Clopton Allen Lloyd-Jones (12 November 1858 – 7 March 1918) was an English businessman and amateur sportsman, best known for football and cricket. He played for the Clapham Rovers when they won the FA Cup in 1880 and was selected, but did not play, for Wales as an international. Early life He was born in Hanwood, Shropshire, the younger son of Charles Lloyd Jones (1828-1901), who was known as the squire of Hanwood, about three miles from Shrewsbury. Like his father, his name was not hyphenated on his birth certificate; while commonly named as Lloyd-Jones in newspaper reports, he was also at other times named as C.A.L.
