Showtime (The J. Geils Band Album)
''Showtime!'' is the third and final live album by American rock band The J. Geils Band during their career. It was recorded at the Pine Knob Music Theater in Clarkston, Michigan on September 4, 1982. While some critics consider it to be weaker than the group's two earlier live albums '' "Live" Full House'' (1972) and ''Blow Your Face Out'' (1976), this release captures the band at its commercial peak. The tracks are drawn primarily from the four studio albums released since ''Blow Your Face Out:'' ''Monkey Island'' (1977); ''Sanctuary'' (1978); '' Love Stinks'' (1980); and '' Freeze Frame'' (1981). This was the last release by the band before frontman Peter Wolf's departure in 1983. John Tobler
John Hugen Tobler (born 9 May 1943) is a British rock music journalist, writer, occasional broadcaster, and record company executive. With Pete Frame, he was one of the founders of ZigZag magazine in April 1969. The magazine focused on the " underground" music scene of the time and featured Tobler's interviews with many of the leading rock and folk musicians of the period, both American and British. He continued to write for ZigZag until the 1980s, and for many other music magazines since then. Zavier Leslie Cabarga (b. 1954 in New York), popularly known as Leslie Cabarga, is an American author, illustrator, cartoonist, animator, font designer, and publication designer. Danny Klein
Daniel Klein (born May 23, 1946) is an American bassist best known as a member of The J. Geils Band. Early life Daniel Klein was born on May 23, 1946, in the Bronx, New York City. He moved to New Jersey at age 6 and in 1964 he began attending Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts studying mechanical engineering. It was there that he met musicians John Geils and Richard Salwitz. By 1966 Klein left WPI to pursue a career in music. Musical career While attending college Klein formed a jug band with Salwitz and Geils. When Peter Wolf, Seth Justman and Stephen Jo Bladd joined they changed their name to The J. Chris Kenner
Christophe Kenner (December 25, 1929 – January 25, 1976) was an American, New Orleans-based Rhythm and blues, R&B singer and songwriter, best known for two hit singles in the early 1960s, "I Like It Like That (Chris Kenner song), I Like It Like That" and "Land of a Thousand Dances, Land of 1000 Dances", which became staples in the repertoires of many other musicians. The most successful single of the group's career, it reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart in February 1982 and held that spot for six weeks. "Love Stinks" is a song written by Peter Wolf and Seth Justman that was the title track of the J. Geils Band's 1980 album '' Love Stinks''. The song was released as a single and peaked in the US at #38, spending three weeks in the Top 40. In Canada, the song reached number 15, as it did on WLS-AM in Chicago. Background The lyrics describe a love triangle in which two participants experience unrequited love, before segueing into a description of love gone sour in general. The lyrics may have been inspired by J. Geils Band lead singer Peter Wolf's marriage to actress Faye Dunaway, which ended in a 1979 divorce.
