Show Business (album)
''Show Business'' (''stylized'' as $how Bu$ine$$) is the sixth album by the American hard rock band Kix. It was released in 1995 through CMC International, following their departure from Atlantic Records. Kix supported the album with a North American tour. The album was a commercial flop. ''Show Business'' was the band's last album before their long-term breakup. Critical reception '' Rolling Stone'' wrote that "there remains something oddly lovable about this goofy group of hard-rock power popsters who seem to have been going at it forever with only limited commercial success." The ''Deseret News'' deemed the album "light-hearted rock with lots of innuendo but not much substance." Kix (band)
Kix (sometimes stylized as KIX) is an American glam metal and hard rock band that achieved popularity during the 1980s. Led by frontman Steve Whiteman and bassist Donnie Purnell, the band's classic lineup was rounded out by drummer Jimmy "Chocolate" Chalfant and guitarists Ronnie "10/10" Younkins and Brian "Damage" Forsythe. Kix covered AC/DC, Aerosmith, April Wine, Led Zeppelin, and others before signing with Atlantic Records in 1981. Since peaking in the late-1980s, band members have continued to intermittently record and tour, including the Rocklahoma festival in 2008 in Oklahoma. In addition, they are a consistent presence at the annual M3 Rock Festival in the band's home state of Maryland. George Marino (April 15, 1947 – June 4, 2012) was an American mastering engineer known for working on albums by rock bands starting in the late 1960s. Biography Marino was born on April 15, 1947, in the New York City borough The Bronx. He attended Christopher Columbus High School there and learned to play the saxophone and bass fiddle in the high school band and was classically trained on guitar. Marino broke into the music business as a guitarist playing rock and roll in local New York City bands such as The Chancellors and The New Sounds Ltd. until most of the band members were drafted into the service for the war in Vietnam. In 1967, Marino landed his first job in the industry as a librarian and assistant at Capitol Studios. Soon after, he apprenticed in the mastering department alongside of Joe Lansky, cutting rock, pop, jazz and classical albums. Steve Whiteman
Steve Whiteman (born August 28, 1956) is an American rock vocalist, best known for being the lead singer of Kix (band), Kix. Biography Early years Whiteman first realized his love for music at a young age, as a child, he would hurry home from church to play, by ear, the hymnals he'd heard during Sunday service. He started his music career playing drums in a Led Zeppelin cover band. Kix Whiteman was recruited to join Kix in 1978 while they were known as "The Shooze". Whiteman and then-drummer Donnie Spence would alternate between who would drum and who would sing until it was decided that since Whiteman could hit the harder notes that he should stay as lead singer, Spence would soon leave in 1979 and be replaced by current-drummer Jimmy "Chocolate" Chalfant. Taylor Rhodes
Taylor Laurence Rhodes is an American songwriter, producer, and musician from Nashville, Tennessee, most notable for his work with hard rock band Aerosmith since 1993. Music career 1980s In 1987, Rhodes co-wrote the lead-off minor hit title track from Y&T's album ''Contagious''. The following year, he co-wrote a single on fellow glam metal band Kix's commercial breakthrough album, ''Blow My Fuse''. This track, "Cold Blood" became a hit on rock radio stations and helped earn Rhodes a spot as producer for the next Kix album. 1990s Rhodes produced the 1991 Kix album '' Hot Wire'', in addition to co-writing half of the songs from the album. Hard Rock
Hard rock or heavy rock is a loosely defined subgenre of rock music typified by aggressive vocals and distorted electric guitars. Hard rock began in the mid-1960s with the garage, psychedelic and blues rock movements. Some of the earliest hard rock music was produced by the Kinks, the Who, The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Cream, Vanilla Fudge, and the Jimi Hendrix Experience.
