''Shotgun Singer'' is an album by American singer/songwriter Kris Delmhorst, released in 2008. History Delmhorst recorded ''Shotgun Singer'' in a rural cabin with minimal recording gear by herself. Once completed, she brought in various players to add to the songs, including her husband Jeffrey Foucault and friend and label-mate Peter Mulvey. Kris Delmhorst
Kris Delmhorst is an American singer-songwriter and musician. Originally from Brooklyn, New York City, United States, she now lives in Western Massachusetts, is an active member of the Boston folk scene, and tours internationally. She has released eight full-length solo albums and two EPs on Signature Sounds Recordings. Biography Delmhorst released '' Appetite'', her first album, in 1998, the same year she was involved in producing the ''Respond'' compilation, a fundraiser for domestic violence groups. It included her song ''Weatherman''. In 1999, she released a live album with The Vinal Avenue String Band, consisting of herself, Sean Staples, and Ry Cavanaugh. Signature Sounds Recordings
Signature Sounds Recordings is an independent record label specializing in Americana and modern folk music. Jim Olsen and Mark Thayer founded the label in 1995 to promote acoustic musicians who were playing in Northampton, Massachusetts. Signature recorded Josh Ritter, Erin McKeown, Mary Gauthier, and Lori McKenna. The label's albums are distributed worldwide by Redeye Distribution. History Thayer established the Signature Sounds Recording Studio in 1982 and created the label with Olsen in 1995. The studio in Pomfret, Connecticut has recorded folk and jazz musicians, including many Signature Sounds recordings. The label's main office moved in 2012 from its original location in Whately, Massachusetts to a more prominent site in downtown Northampton. ''Strange Conversation'' is an album by singer/songwriter Kris Delmhorst, released in 2006. History Multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Delmhorst takes on setting some works of famous poets to music along with her own original compositions. The lead off track is named after Italian composer Baldassare Galuppi. Inspired by and quoting heavily from the Robert Browning poem A Toccata of Galuppi's, Delmhorst reflects on the composers times and style: "And the minor third so bitter, the six chord like a sigh, suspension, solution, asking must we die, must we die must we die? Jeffrey Foucault (born January 26, 1976) is an American songwriter and record producer from Whitewater, Wisconsin, United States, whose work marries the influence of American country, blues, rock 'n' roll, and folk music. He has released seven full-length solo albums under his own name and two full-band lyrical collaborations with poet Lisa Olstein, under the moniker Cold Satellite. Foucault has toured extensively in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Europe since 2001, in both full-band and solo appearances. From 2013 through 2020, he performed as a duo with drummer Billy Conway (Morphine, Treat Her Right). Peter Mulvey (born September 6, 1969) is an American folk singer-songwriter based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Since the early 1990s, he has developed a strong national following in the indie folk/rock scene through his relentless touring and critically acclaimed albums. Starting his musical career in Milwaukee while at Marquette University, he honed his performing skills while traveling in Dublin, Ireland. He later spent several years in Boston, where he frequently performed in the city's subway system. He is best known for his warmly wry songwriting and his intense percussive guitar style. ''Redbird'' is a recording by Jeffrey Foucault, Kris Delmhorst and Peter Mulvey, performing as Redbird, released in February 2005. History All three are artists on the Signature Sounds Recordings label and regularly toured together. Foucault and Delmhorst are married. The trio worked out many of the songs on the road allowing them to record the album in a scant three days. It was recorded on a DAT recorder with one stereo microphone in a living room by David Goodrich. Reception Writing for Allmusic, critic Chris Nickson wrote that of the album, "Spontaneity rules.
