Shota Horie
(born 21 January 1986 in Osaka, Japan) is a Japanese rugby union player. His preferred position is hooker although he can also play in the back row. He represents Japan at the international level. He has played for the Panasonic Wild Knights in the domestic Japanese Top League competition, and in 2013 began playing Super Rugby with the Melbourne Rebels in Australia, but has since gone back to Japan to play for the Sunwolves. Japan Horie made his debut for Japan in 2009, and represented his country at the 2011 Rugby World Cup. Early years Horie is a native of Osaka Prefecture. He began playing rugby when he was a fifth-grade student, and later captained the Teikyo University rugby team. Top League Horie played for the Panasonic Wild Knights. The 2016 All-Japan Rugby Football Championship (日本ラグビーフットボール選手権大会 ''Nihon Ragubi-Futtobo-ru Senshuken Taikai'') took place as a one-off final match between Panasonic Wild Knights and Teikyo University at the Chichibunomiya Stadium in Tokyo on 31 January 2016. Panasonic won the match by 49–59. The abbreviated format was chosen due to the busy schedule for Japanese Rugby which included the 2015 Rugby World Cup as well as Asian qualification for the 2016 Olympics and the introduction of a Japanese Super Rugby team, the Sunwolves. The All-Japan Rugby Football Championship match, played between the respective winners of the Japanese Top League competition and the All-Japan University Rugby Championship marked the end of the 2015–16 Japanese rugby season before the opening of the 2016 Super Rugby season. Otago Rugby Football Union
The Otago Rugby Football Union is the official governing body of rugby union for the Otago region of New Zealand. The union is based in the city of Dunedin, and its home ground is Forsyth Barr Stadium. The top representative team competes in the ITM Cup, New Zealand's top provincial competition. The union was to have been liquidated in March 2012. However a deal involving the Dunedin City Council allowed it to keep operating. Otago have won the Ranfurly Shield on seven occasions (1935, 1938, 1947, 1957, 2013, 2018 and 2020). They were the National provincial championship winners in 1991 and 1998. The 2016 Super Rugby season was the 21st season of Super Rugby and the first season featuring an expanded 18-team format. It was also the first season that teams outside Australia, New Zealand and South Africa featured, with the Jaguares from Argentina and the Sunwolves from Japan taking part.
