This article is a list of notable shopping malls in Canada by province. Canada's first indoor mall was the Lister Block, originally opened in 1852, in Hamilton, Ontario. The Lister Block was destroyed by fire and rebuilt in 1924. In 2011 the building was completely rebuilt. Opened in 1949, the first shopping mall in Canada is the Norgate shopping centre, a strip mall in Saint-Laurent, Montreal, Quebec. The first enclosed shopping mall was the Park Royal Shopping Centre in West Vancouver, British Columbia, which opened a year later, in 1950. Indoor Mall
A shopping mall (or simply mall) is a North American term for a large indoor shopping center, usually Anchor tenant, anchored by department stores. The term "mall" originally meant pedestrian zone, a pedestrian promenade with shops along it (that is, the term was used to refer to the walkway itself which was merely bordered by such shops), but in the late 1960s, it began to be used as a generic term for the large enclosed shopping centers that were becoming commonplace at the time. In the U.K., such complexes are considered shopping centres (Commonwealth English: shopping centre), though "shopping center" covers many more sizes and types of centers than the North American "mall". Other countries may follow U.S. usage (Philippines, India, United Arab Emirates, U.A.E., etc.) and others (Australia, etc.) follow U.K. usage. Market Mall
CF Market Mall is one of the largest malls (by area) in Calgary, Alberta, Canada (900,490 square feet/83,658.3 m²). It is located in Varsity, a suburban neighbourhood in the city's northwest quadrant on Shaganappi Trail. The mall is jointly owned (50/50) by Cadillac Fairview and Ivanhoé Cambridge, two of Canada's largest real estate property managers and developers, but managed by the former. Londonderry Mall
Londonderry Mall is a shopping centre located in north Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. It contains over 150 stores and services with nine major tenants. The mall opened in 1972 and has been expanded and renovated since. Londonderry Mall has many notable stores, including a full service Shoppers Drug Mart, Hudson's Bay, Winners, Dollar Tree, Dollarama, Miniso, Fabricland, Fit 4 Less, Simons department store, Flight Centre and H&M. The mall recently went under a complete renovation which completed in August 2017. History Londonderry Mall opened in 1972 with 85 stores and services. Kingsway Mall
Kingsway Mall (formerly Kingsway Garden Mall) is a shopping centre located in central Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The mall, constructed in 1976, completed a $70-million redevelopment from 2007–2009. The "Revealing" held the weekend of 13 November 2009, saw the name change, introduced the public to the new mall, and opened the winter shopping season. Bordered by three major commuter roads ( 109 Street, Princess Elizabeth Avenue, and Kingsway), Kingsway Mall is situated near NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) and the Royal Alexandra Hospital. On 14 March 2014, its Target location opened, but closed in 2015. Also, in 2015, Forever 21 opened in the former Smitty's and Shefield Express. It also had the last Smart Set in Edmonton. Edmonton City Centre
Edmonton City Centre is a shopping mall in the downtown core of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, across the street (west) from Churchill Square. History In 1974, the City Centre Place office tower (Oxford Tower) was completed within the larger Edmonton Centre development; TD Tower was added in 1976. In 1978, Oxford Tower (now MNP Tower) and the Four Seasons Hotel (now Sandman Signature Edmonton) were built on the north edge of the site. Bonnie Doon Shopping Centre is a shopping centre in Edmonton, Alberta, at the intersection of Whyte Avenue and 83 Street in the Bonnie Doon neighbourhood. Westbrook Mall
Westbrook Mall is a shopping centre in Calgary, Alberta. Its anchors are Safeway and Walmart. The Westbrook Station on the West Line of the C-Train is located adjacent to the mall. Stephen Avenue Place
Stephen Avenue Place, formerly Scotia Centre is an office and retail hub in downtown Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Located at 700 2nd Street SW, it stands at 155 metres (509 feet) or 41-storeys tall and was the tallest building in Calgary at the time of its completion. Formerly known as the Scotia Centre, after its namesake tenant Scotiabank, the building was purchased by Slate Asset Management in 2018 and was extensively renovated. Southcentre Mall
Southcentre Mall is one of the largest (by area) shopping malls in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, , and contains approximately 190 stores and services over two floors. It is located in the city's southeast quadrant at the intersection of Macleod Trail and Anderson Road, and across the street from the Anderson C-Train Station, in the neighbourhood of Willow Park. Northland Village Mall
Northland Village Mall was a shopping mall located in northwest Calgary, Alberta. The mall opened in 1971, with it being further expanded in 2005. The mall closed in 2021, with demolition to redevelop the mall happening throughout the year 2022 to turn it into an open-air facility. Prior to 2021, Northland Village was a one-level shopping centre (with a small two-level section) with over 60 retail shops and services.
