The Men's 50 metre rifle three positions event at the 2008 Olympic Games took place on August 17 at the Beijing Shooting Range Hall, the last shooting event of the Beijing Olympics. The event consisted of two rounds: a qualifier and a final. In the qualifier, each shooter fired 120 shots with a .22 Long Rifle The .22 Long Rifle or simply .22 LR or 22 (metric designation: 5.6×15mmR) is a long-established variety of .22 caliber rimfire ammunition originating from the United States. Beijing Shooting Range Hall
The Beijing Shooting Range Hall () is a shooting hall located in Shijingshan District, Beijing. It hosted the qualifying rounds and finals of ten shooting sports events at the 2008 Summer Olympics, consisting of all 10-, 25- and 50-metre events. It was the venue of the first gold medal awarded at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. The entire shooting sports events for the 2008 Summer Paralympics were also held at this venue. Construction of the venue broke ground on July 13, 2004 and was completed on July 28, 2007. It was used for a pre-Olympic test event in April 2008 as part of the 2008 ISSF World Cup. The venue, with a total surface area of 45,645 square meters, contains qualification competition halls, a final competition hall, a storehouse, a room for armed police use, a heating and ventilation equipment room, and an electric transformer room. Vitaliy Semyonovich Dovgun ( kk, Виталий Семёнович Довгун; born February 15, 1971) is a Kazakhstani sport shooter. At age thirty-eight, Dovgun made his official debut for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, where he competed in all three rifle shooting events. Beat Müller (born 8 February 1978 in Bern) is a Swiss sport shooter. He won a bronze medal in the men's 300 m rifle prone (300FR60PR) at the 2008 European Shooting Championships in Granada, Spain, accumulating a score of 599 points. Muller is also a member of Sportschützen Taters, and is coached and trained by former Olympian Wolfram Waibel Jr. of Austria.
