Shooting At The 1912 Summer Olympics – Men's 30 Metre Rapid Fire Pistol
The men's 30 metre dueling pistol (originally called ''individual competition with revolver and pistol (duel shooting)'') was a shooting sports pistol event held as part of the 1912 Summer Olympics shooting programme. It was later standardized by the ISSF to the ''men's 25 metre rapid fire pistol''. It was the third appearance of the event (fourth counting 1906), as it had not been featured at the 1908 Games.1980 Official Report, vol. 3, p. 531 (listing 1912 competition as third in the rapid fire pistol category). The competition was held on Saturday, 29 June 1912. Forty-two sport shooters from ten nations competed. Nations were limited to 12 shooters each.Official Report, p. 1062. Felix Adolf Schmal (18 September 1872 – 28 August 1919) was an Austrian fencer and racing cyclist. He was born in Dortmund and died in Salzburg. He competed at the 1896 Summer Olympics in Athens. 1896 Olympics With a fencing mask, sabre and a racing bike, Schmal got a train ticket and headed for Athens, Greece for the first Olympics, and on 8 April 1896, he competed in the 100 km cycling race, but like seven other starters from the original ten he didn't finish the race. Reginald Hall Sayre (October 15, 1859 – May 29, 1929) was a prominent American orthopedic surgeon and Olympic sport shooter. Biography Sayre was born to Eliza Ann Hall, an artist, and Lewis Albert Sayre, the leading American orthopedic surgeon. He studied at the Churchill & Maury School and Columbia College, graduating in 1881. Two of his elder brothers went into medicine after the father, and thus Reginald initially thought to become a lawyer. However, his brother Lewis persuaded him to follow the family tradition and enter the Bellevue Hospital Medical College in 1881. After graduation in 1884, he worked as an assistant to Hermann Biggs and then joined the practice of his brother Lewis. Later he began helping his father with teaching at a college.
