Shoalhaven Regional Gallery
Shoalhaven Regional Gallery is an art gallery in Nowra, New South Wales. History The Shoalhaven Regional Gallery is located in the centre of Nowra, NSW and is administered by the Shoalhaven City Council. The gallery was previously known as the Shoalhaven City Arts Centre & Regional Gallery and was refurbished by the Shoalhaven City Council. The group, Arts Shoalhaven worked determinedly since 1989 until 2004 to see the Shoalhaven Arts Centre become a reality. Funding for this came from the NSW Ministry of the Arts and the Australian Government Regional Partnership Program. The gallery was officially opened on 28 February 2004 by the mayor of the Shoalhaven, Councillor Greg Watson, accompanied by Senator Rod Kemp (Federal Minister for the Arts) and Councillor John Anderson (Chairperson of Shoalhaven Arts Board and Assistant Deputy Mayor). Nowra is a city in the South Coast, New South Wales, South Coast region of New South Wales, Australia. It is located south-southwest of the state capital of Sydney (about as the crow flies). As of the 2021 census, Nowra has an estimated population of 22,584. The City of Shoalhaven is a local government area in the south-eastern coastal region of New South Wales, Australia. The area is about south of Sydney. The Princes Highway passes through the area, and the South Coast railway line traverses the northern section, terminating at Bomaderry. At the , the population was 108,531. Rod Kemp
Charles Roderick Kemp (born 21 December 1944) is an Australian politician. He was a Liberal member of the Australian Senate from 1990 to 2008, representing the state of Victoria. Kemp was born in Melbourne, Victoria, and was educated at Melbourne University, where he graduated in commerce. He is the brother of Dr David Kemp, who was a Liberal MP from 1990 to 2004. Euan Macleod
Euan Macleod (born 1956) is a New Zealand-born artist. Macleod was born in Christchurch, New Zealand and moved to Sydney, Australia in 1981, where he lives and works. He received a Certificate in Graphic Design from Christchurch Technical College in 1975 and a Diploma in Fine Arts (Painting) from the University of Canterbury in 1979. As well as pursuing his art he also teaches painting at the National Art School in Sydney. Style Macleod deals mostly with landscapes and the human presence within it. Max Dupain
Maxwell Spencer Dupain AC OBE (22 April 191127 July 1992) was an Australian modernist photographer. Early life Dupain received his first camera as a gift in 1924, spurring his interest in photography. He later joined the Photographic Society of NSW, where he was taught by Justin Newlan; after completing his tertiary studies, he worked for Cecil Bostock in Sydney. Career Early years By 1934 Max Dupain had struck out on his own and opened a studio in Bond Street, Sydney. In 1937, while on the south coast of New South Wales, he photographed the head and shoulders of an English friend, Harold Salvage, lying on the sand at Culburra Beach. Arthur Merric Bloomfield Boyd (24 July 1920 – 24 April 1999) was a leading Australian painter of the middle to late 20th century. Boyd's work ranges from impressionist renderings of Australian landscape to starkly expressionist figuration, and many canvases feature both. Sir Sidney Robert Nolan (22 April 191728 November 1992) was one of Australia's leading artists of the 20th century. Karla Dickens (born 2 December 1967) is an Aboriginal Australian installation artist of the Wiradjuri people, based in Lismore, New South Wales. Her works are in major public collections in Australia. Early life and education Dickens was born on 2 December 1967 in Sydney and lived in several suburbs. Her father worked on the wharves and drove trucks. Her mother was a factory worker. She was close to her grandmother, who lived in Mascot, where a group of Aboriginal people taken off their land had settled. Fiona Foley (born 1964) is a contemporary Indigenous Australian artist from K'gari (Fraser Island), Queensland. Foley is known for her activity as an academic, cultural and community leader and for co-founding the Boomalli Aboriginal Artists Co-operative. Her practice encompasses many media including painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, textiles and installation. Her work addresses contemporary political issues facing Indigenous Australians and is held in the public collections of many Australian state, national and university collections including the Cruthers Collection of Women's Art as well as the British Museum. Emily Kame Kngwarreye
Emily Kame Kngwarreye (or Emily Kam Ngwarray) (1910 – 3 September 1996) was an Aboriginal Australian artist from the Utopia community in the Northern Territory. She is one of the most prominent and successful artists in the history of Australian art. Life and family Kngwarreye was born 1910 in Alhalkere in the Utopia Homelands, an Aboriginal community located approximately 250 kilometres north-east of Alice Springs. Her family was Anmatyerre. She was the youngest of three, with no biological children of her own. She was the sister-in-law of the artist Minnie Pwerle and the aunt of Pwerle's daughter, artist Barbara Weir. Christian Thompson (artist)
Christian Andrew William Thompson (born 1978), also known as Christian Bumbarra Thompson, is a contemporary Australian artist. Of Bidjara heritage on his father's side, his Aboriginal identity has played an important role in his work, which includes photography, video installations and sound recordings. After being awarded the Charlie Perkins Scholarship, to complete his doctorate in Fine Arts at Oxford University, he has spent much time in England. His work has been extensively exhibited in galleries around Australia and internationally. Anna Glynn is an Australian visual artist whose diverse work spans the mediums of painting, drawing, installation, moving image, sound and sculpture.
