Shmap'n Shmazz
''Burritos, Inspiration Point, Fork Balloon Sports, Cards in the Spokes, Automatic Biographies, Kites, Kung Fu, Trophies, Banana Peels We've Slipped On and Egg Shells We've Tippy Toed Over'' is Cap'n Jazz's only full-length studio album, released in 1995 on Man With Gun Records. It is also referred to as the ''Shmap'n Shmazz'' LP. For a long period of time, the record in its original form was completely out of print—only recently has it been reissued on Polyvinyl Records on cassette tape and digitally. There was also a reissue of the vinyl LP licensed by Tiny Superhero records in the UK. The twelve tracks found on this album are also found on ''Analphabetapolothology'' – a double CD containing all of Cap'n Jazz's recorded material – released in 1998 by Jade Tree Records. Reception ''NME'' listed the album as one of "20 Emo Albums That Have Resolutely Stood The Test of Time". Emo is a rock music genre characterized by emotional, often confessional lyrics. It emerged as a style of and hardcore punk from the Washington D.C. hardcore punk scene, where it was known as emotional hardcore or emocore and pioneered by bands such as Rites of Spring and Embrace. Piano
The piano is a stringed keyboard instrument in which the strings are struck by wooden hammers that are coated with a softer material (modern hammers are covered with dense wool felt; some early pianos used leather). Tambourine
The tambourine is a musical instrument in the percussion family consisting of a frame, often of wood or plastic, with pairs of small metal jingles, called "zills". Mike Kinsella
Mike Kinsella (born March 4, 1977) is an American musician and singer-songwriter. Having been involved in many Illinois-based bands, he is best known as the lead vocalist and guitarist of the emo band American Football. Kinsella's first musical project was serving as drummer for the band Cap'n Jazz, which he co-founded with his brother Tim. With either Tim and/or cousin Nate Kinsella, he has also participated in the projects Owls and Joan of Arc. In 2001, Kinsella began his current solo project, Owen, in which he performs vocals, guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, loops, etc. Kinsella was also in a band called The Shirts and Skins, with his wife. Bass Guitar
The bass guitar, electric bass or simply bass (), is the lowest-pitched member of the string family. It is a plucked string instrument similar in appearance and construction to an electric or an acoustic guitar, but with a longer neck and scale length, and typically four to six strings or courses. Sam Zurick
Make Believe was an indie rock band, initially formed as a touring version of Joan of Arc. The band was initially composed of eccentric voiced singer Tim Kinsella, guitarist Sam Zurick, bassist Bobby Burg, and drummer/keyboardist Nate Kinsella. After 3 months of touring as Joan Of Arc the quartet returned home and decided to begin writing new songs with a more aggressive approach. Following a self-titled 5 track EP, their first full-length ''Shock of Being'' was released on October 4, 2005, followed by ''Of Course'' in 2006. On June 20, 2007, Tim Kinsella announced on the Joan of Arc website that he was no longer a member of Make Believe. He attributed his departure to feeling a lessening connection to the "rock band lifestyle", and to a desire to spend more time with his wife.
