was an educator, translator, and novelist best known for translating ''Little Lord Fauntleroy'' written by Frances Hodgson Burnett. She is also known for introducing literature with Christianity for children's novels. Early life Born to Katsujirō Matsukawa as the eldest daughter in Aizu (Aizuwakamatsu post 1868), named according to the year on Chinese calendar when she was born. At the age of one in 1868, her father left his family as an espionage who served for Aizu clan against the revolutionist during Boshin war, and the next year, he was relocated to Tonami, the present day Mutsu with his feudal lord. Early life and career Shizuko Kasagi was born on 25 August 1914 in Ōkawa District, Kagawa, Japan. She originally took as her stage name, but eventually changed the spelling of her name to . Shizuko Hoshi is a Japanese-American actress, theater director, dancer and choreographer. Born in Japan, she is a graduate of Tokyo Women's College and University of Southern California. She was married to actor Mako, the founding artistic director of East West Players in Los Angeles, and worked closely with the Asian-American theatre company from 1965 to 1989.
