Shirley Barber
Shirley Barber (23 June 1935 – 12 December 2023) was a British children's author and illustrator. Born on 23 June 1935, Shirley spent her early childhood in Guernsey ( Channel Islands). She had formal art school training at Sanderson's Furnishings, a textile and wallpaper studio in London.Katherine Kizilos, "Our fairy Grandmother", '' The Age'', 18 August 2008, p. 13 Barber was a long time resident in Australia having emigrated there in 1965 and worked for a time for Oxford University Press in Melbourne, Victoria. She lived in Watsonia, a suburb of Melbourne, with her son and his family and was married twice. Her second husband Keith Barber died in 2000. Barber wrote many picture books and fairy-themed colouring books, calendars and diaries, which have sold over 10 million copies as of 2008. Most of Barber's books featured fairies and animals. Bologna Children's Book Fair
The Bologna Children's Book Fair or La fiera del libro per ragazzi is the leading professional fair for children's books in the world. Since 1963, it is held yearly for four days in March or April in Bologna, Italy. It is the meeting place for all professionals involved with creating and publishing children's books, and is mainly used for the buying and selling of rights, both for translations and for derived products like movies or animated series. It is also the event where a number of major awards are given, the BolognaRagazzi Awards, in four categories (Fiction, Non-fiction, New Horizons (for the non-Western world) and Opera Prima (for first works). Roland Harvey
Roland Bruce Harvey (born 11 December 1945) is an Australian children's illustrator, and author. He is best known as an illustrator of children's books using pen, ink, and watercolour, and is the founder owner of Five Mile Press. Early life Roland Harvey was born on 11 December 1945 in Melbourne, Victoria. Career His works have been described as showing a "witty slapstick style" with "characteristic humorous and detailed illustrations". A former architect, Harvey established Roland Harvey Studios, an illustration and design firm, in 1978. In 1981 he expanded his business by establishing his own book publishing company, Five Mile Press. His children's book division, Roland Harvey Books, aims to publish books that raise awareness of issues and ideas as well as entertain readers. Harvey has written picture books and humorous historical works for young children.
