Shire Of Wyalkatchem
The Shire of Wyalkatchem is a local government area located in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia. Its seat of government is the town of Wyalkatchem, about northeast of Perth, the state capital. History On 18 June 1920, the Wyalkatchem Road District was created out of land previously administered by the Ninghan and Dowerin Road Boards. On 1 July 1961, it became the Shire of Wyalkatchem under the ''Local Government Act 1960'', which reformed all remaining road districts into shires. Korrelocking, Western Australia
Korrelocking is a small town situated between Wyalkatchem and Trayning in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia. At the 2006 census, Korrelocking had a population of 76. During the construction of the Merredin to Dowerin railway line the government decided to establish a station in the area. The Yuragin progress association petitioned for a townsite to be declared at the station. The town was gazetted in 1911, shortly before the opening of the railway line. In 1932 the Wheat Pool of Western Australia announced that the town would have two grain elevators, each fitted with an engine, installed at the railway siding, which in effect saw Korrelocking as one of the first five bulk wheat locations on the Western Australian Government Railways network, and a site of the beginning of bulk wheat handling in Western Australia. Cowcowing, Western Australia
Cowcowing is a small town located just off the Koorda– Wyalkatchem road from Perth, south of Koorda and north of Wyalkatchem in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia. The town originated as a railway siding and was later gazetted as a townsite in 1919. The name of the town is Aboriginal in origin and was first recorded by explorers in 1854. The name of the nearby lake recorded as "Gow gow eeh lake" has now been changed to Cowcowing Lake; the meaning of the name remains unknown. The town is a Cooperative Bulk Handling receival site. On 2 October 2022, a helicopter accident occurred near Cowcowing Lake, killing two people. Benjaberring, Western Australia
Benjaberring is a small town in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia located in the Shire of Wyalcatchem. The name of the town originates from the Aboriginal name of a nearby water source. The name of the area first appears on charts in 1846; the town site was first declared as Benjabbering in 1910, but the spelling was changed to Benjaberring in 1911 to more accurately reflect the correct pronunciation. In 1927 - the wheat statistics were showing over 2,000 tons annually for the years 1924/1925, and 1925/1926.
