South Gippsland
South Gippsland, a region of Gippsland in Victoria, Australia, is a well-watered region consisting of low, rolling hills descending to the coast in the south and the Latrobe Valley in the north. Low granite hills continue into Wilsons Promontory, the southernmost point of Victoria and mainland Australia. Rivers are generally very short and impossible to dam owing to the lack of potential storage sites, but groundwater of good quality is readily available. The Shire of Traralgon was a local government area about east-southeast of Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria, Australia. The shire covered an area of , and existed from 1879 until 1994. From 1961 onwards, it did not actually administer the town of Traralgon, which was the responsibility of a separate authority. History Traralgon was incorporated as a shire on 24 October 1879. On 27 May 1892, it lost its Western Riding, which formed the Shire of Morwell. Tarwin Lower, Victoria
Tarwin Lower is a small town located south-east of Melbourne, Australia. It rests on the south bank of the Tarwin River and at the , had a population of 115. History The original settlement is believed to have started at an area called Tarwin Meadows. The area south of Tarwin Lower is still called by this name. Tarwin Lower is on the banks of the Tarwin River. The first major land-holder in the area was George Black. Black leased land from the Bass River through to Cape Liptrap. Black bought the Tarwin Meadows Run in 1851. Several drowning fatalities have occurred over the years, primarily because of the tidal nature of the river. Budj Bim
Budj Bim, also known as Mount Eccles, is a dormant volcano near Macarthur in southwestern Victoria, Australia. It lies within the geologically-defined area known as the Newer Volcanics Province, which is the youngest volcanic area in Australia and stretches from western Victoria to south-eastern South Australia. It is situated within the Budj Bim National Park. Budj Bim is the Gunditjmara name, meaning "High Head". The roughly conical peak rises . The peak is a scoria hill that was thrown up beside a group of three overlapping volcanic craters that now contain Lake Surprise. A line of smaller craters and scoria cones runs to the southeast. Meeniyan, Victoria
Meeniyan is a small country town on the South Gippsland Highway between Leongatha and Foster in Australia. As of 2016 it has a population of 771. History The Post Office opened on 16 August 1890 shortly before the railway arrived. The Meeniyan Magistrates' Court closed on 1 January 1983, not having been visited by a Magistrate since 1971. Koonwarra is a town in the South Gippsland region of Victoria, Australia. At the , Koonwarra had a population of 404. The town straddles the South Gippsland Highway.
