Shire Of Oxley
The Shire of Oxley was a local government area in Victoria, Australia, immediately to the south of the city of Wangaratta, which housed the shire's council chambers. Oxley covered an area of , and existed from 1862 until 1994. History The Oxley Road District was incorporated on 21 November 1862, and became a shire on 12 December 1865, after changes to local government legislation. Subsequently, it was divided into Eastern, Central and Western Ridings, each of which elected three councillors. Accessed at State Library of Victoria, La Trobe Reading Room. On 18 November 1994, the Shire of Oxley was abolished, and along with the City of Wangaratta, the Shire of Wangaratta and various surrounding districts, was merged into the newly created Rural City of Wangaratta. Hume (region)
The Hume is an economic rural region located in the north-eastern part of Victoria, Australia. Comprising an area in excess of with a population that ranges from (in 2011) to (in 2012), the Hume region includes the local government areas of Alpine Shire, Rural City of Benalla, City of Wodonga, City of Greater Shepparton, Shire of Indigo, Shire of Mansfield, Shire of Strathbogie, Shire of Towong and the Rural City of Wangaratta, and also includes five unincorporated areas encompassing the alpine ski resorts in the region. Whorouly, Victoria
Whorouly is a town in northeast Victoria, Australia. Its name is possibly derived from an Aboriginal word meaning a black (or red) cockatoo, although another suggestion is that it means "underwater". The town is in the valley of the Ovens River and in the Rural City of Wangaratta local government area, north-east of the state capital, Melbourne and south-east of the regional centre of Wangaratta. At the , Whorouly and the surrounding area had a population of 376. Prior to the 1994 council amalgamations by the Kennett Government (and the creation of the Rural City of Wangaratta), the township was in the disbanded Shire of Oxley. Whitfield is an agricultural township in the King Valley in north-eastern Victoria. Overview The township is immediately west of the flood-prone King River and has State Forest to its west and east. Moyhu, Victoria
Moyhu is a small town in North East Victoria, Australia. It is situated in the fertile King Valley, near the King River, which flows from the Victorian Alps and joins the Ovens River in Wangaratta. The town is about 2.5 hours drive from Melbourne, and 25 minutes from Wangaratta, and is part of the Rural City of Wangaratta. King Valley
The King Valley, or King River Valley is a wine-producing and agricultural region centred on the King River between Wangaratta and the Alpine National Park in the North East Victoria zone of the Australian state of Victoria. History The district had four villages, all of which were called Greta at some stage.
