The Shire of Capel is a local government area in the South West region of Western Australia, taking in the land between the cities of Bunbury and Busselton about south of the state capital, Perth. The Shire covers an area of , and its seat of government is the town of Capel. The Shire of Capel has 29 km of beach frontage onto Geographe Bay including access at Forrest Beach, Peppermint Grove Beach, Minninup Beach and Dalyellup Beach. The eight kilometer stretch of Stirling Beach (commencing at the Capel River, north to the Minninup Beach access at Rich Road) has no public access points since all the adjacent land is privately owned. Boyanup, Western Australia
Boyanup is a town on the South Western Highway in the South West agricultural region, 195 km south of Perth and 18 km south-east of Bunbury, Western Australia. The town is located on the Preston River. Boyanup is a Noongar name, said to mean "a place of quartz" as "Boya" means "rock" or "stone". The first European in the area was Lieutenant Henry William Bunbury, who in December 1836 explored the route from Pinjarra to Busselton and thought it to be ideal for farming. In 1845 Dublin solicitor James Bessonnet took up Location 54 in the Wellington District, consisting of 385 acres through which the Preston River flowed and the new road from Bunbury to the Blackwood had just been completed. Peppermint Grove Beach, Western Australia
Peppermint Grove Beach is a residential subdivision and beachside town in the South West region of Western Australia. Its local government area is the Shire of Capel and it is located northwest of Capel on the Geographe Bay coast near the Capel River mouth. Peppermint Grove Beach, sometimes called Peppermint Grove Beach Estate, is situated on land that was first farmed by James McCourt, an Irish Catholic settler in the 19th century. James McCourt arrived in the colony in 1842 with his wife Mary and two children, on the 'Trusty'. He worked at Australind as a timber worker. In 1843, they abandoned Australind and moved to Ludlow where several Catholic families had settled. By 1847 McCourt had a 330-acre depasturing lease which he named 'Fatfield' by 1848. Ludlow, Western Australia
Ludlow is a locality in the South West region of Western Australia near the Tuart Forest National Park. It is in the local government areas of the City of Busselton and the Shire of Capel. At the 2021 census, the area had a population of 132. History The Wardandi people inhabited the Ludlow area before European settlement. A school, Ludlow School (originally known as Ludlow Bridge School), existed in the area as early as 1866, but initially operated intermittently due to low patronage. Dalyellup, Western Australia
Dalyellup, (pronounced Daly-ellup), is an outer northern suburb of the Shire of Capel local government area. The suburb was established in 1999 when the Department of Housing and Works entered into a joint venture with Satterley Property Group to develop Dalyellup Beach Estate, a master-planned community which was expected to yield 3,000 lots by its completion in 2012. In the original advertising campaign, Dalyellup was heavily promoted as "A village in the Forest by the Sea".
