The Shire of Hampden was a local government area about west-southwest of Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria, Australia. The shire covered an area of , and existed from 1857 until 1994. History Hampden was first incorporated as the Hampden and Heytesbury Road District on 28 April 1857, and became a shire on 31 December 1863. On 31 May 1895, it lost parts of its East and West Wards to create the Shire of Heytesbury. On 9 September 1952, the Borough of Camperdown severed from its East Riding. Noorat, Victoria
Noorat is a small township in southwestern Victoria, Australia. Noorat is located approximately 211 km west of Melbourne. The township is located at the base of Mount Noorat, a dormant volcano, which is considered to have Australia's largest dry crater. At the 2006 census, Noorat had a population of 252. By 2011, according to the census, the population had dropped to 167, although this drop in numbers is a bit deceptive as the town boundary was changed in between the 2006 and 2011 census. Noorat derives its name from Mount Noorat, a dormant volcano named by explorer Major Thomas Mitchell after a local Indigenous elder, Ngoora. Lismore is a town in Victoria, Australia, located on the Hamilton Highway west of Melbourne. It is part of the Corangamite Shire local government area. At the 2016 census, Lismore had a population of 420. History The area was first settled by Europeans in 1840, when a John Brown was forced to stop to repair a wagon axle that broke when he attempted to ford a creek. Lismore was surveyed and named in the 1850s, by which point the settlement had developed to include a public house and a number of houses. Lismore Post Office opened on 1 December 1864. Derrinallum is a town in Victoria, Australia, located on the Hamilton Highway, in the Corangamite Shire. The town is the centre for the surrounding farming community and lies at the foot of Mount Elephant. Mount Elephant is a 380 m-high conical breached scoria cone formed by an dormant volcano.
