Shippegan Parish, New Brunswick
Shippegan (incorrectly ''Shippagan'' from the French colloquial spelling) is a civil parish in Gloucester County, New Brunswick, Canada. Located in the northeastern corner of the province at the end of the Acadian Peninsula, the parish consists of the three main islands of Taylor, Lamèque, and Miscou, along with several smaller islands and tidal wetlands; Taylor Island is now joined to the mainland by an isthmus, which is crossed by a causeway. Extensive wetlands lead to a peat moss industry; more recently Spanish multinational Acciona has built a wind farm operation on Lamèque Island. Kiteboarding has been a successful tourist attraction. Shippegan has more governance divisions than any other parish in the province, with two towns, two villages, and fourteen local service districts (LSDs), one of which has an area with enhanced services. All are members of the Acadian Peninsula Regional Service Commission (APRSC). Origin of name The parish takes its name from Shippegan I ...

List Of Parishes In New Brunswick
The Canadian province of New Brunswick is divided by the ''Territorial Division Act'' into 152 parishes, units which had political significance as subdivisions of counties until the Municipalities Act of 1966. Parishes still exist in law and include any municipality, rural community, or regional municipality within their borders. They provided convenient boundaries for electoral districts and organising delivery of government services for some time after 1966 but were gradually supplanted for such purposes by local service districts (LSDs), which better represent communities of interest. Local governance reforms scheduled for 1 January 2023 will abolish the local service district as a unit of governance but this will not affect the existence of civil parishes. Parishes are still usedAs of July 2021, by more than a dozen Acts and more than fifty Regulations. to describe legal boundaries for health administration judicial matters, agricultural boards, and some other entities; highwa ...

Sainte-Marie-Saint-Raphaël
Sainte-Marie-Saint-Raphaël (2011 pop.: 955) is a Canadian village in Gloucester County, New Brunswick; its name is sometimes abbreviated Ste-Marie-St-Raphaël. Located on Lamèque Island, the village was formed by the incorporation of most of the local service district of St. Raphael sur-Mer and a small part of the neighbouring LSD of Haut-Lamèque. Contrary to frequent citation, it was not formed by an amalgamation involving a village called Sainte-Marie. History In May 1971, an anxious Acadian fishing population demanded a public hearing into the safety of the '' Marc Guylaine'', and 400 people met at the Saint-Raphaël community centre where an "action group" was commissioned to study the issue. Ultimately the last of the "cursed" sister ships was found to be unseaworthy.Davis, Nanciellen. Magnetic Declination
Magnetic declination, or magnetic variation, is the angle on the horizontal plane between magnetic north (the direction the north end of a magnetized compass needle points, corresponding to the direction of the Earth's magnetic field lines) and true north (the direction along a meridian towards the geographic North Pole). This angle varies depending on position on the Earth's surface and changes over time. Somewhat more formally, Bowditch defines variation as “the angle between the magnetic and geographic meridians at any place, expressed in degrees and minutes east or west to indicate the direction of magnetic north from true north. The angle between magnetic and grid meridians is called grid magnetic angle, grid variation, or grivation.” By convention, declination is positive when magnetic north is east of true north, and negative when it is to the west. ''Isogonic lines'' are lines on the Earth's surface along which the declination has the same constant value, and line ...
