Shiner (2004 Film)
''Shiner'' is a 2004 film written and directed by Christian Calson and starring Scott Stepp, Derris Nile, Nicholas T. King, David Zelina, Carolyn Crotty, Seth Harrington, Conny Van Dyke Plot ''Shiner'' explores three relationships in which some form of abuse is not only involved but savored. The central story involves Tony and Danny, two friends whose relationship changes once Danny discovers that he becomes sexually satisfied when Tony physically abuses him. Another storyline involves Tim, an out of work boxer who is being stalking, stalked by Bob, a shy loner who still lives at home with his mother. Third is Reg and Linda, who discover their sex life improves when they hit each other during the act. Christian Calson
Christian Calson (born ''Claudiu Cristian Căldărescu'' on 13 January 1975 in Bucharest, Romania) is a Romanian-born American independent filmmaker best known for his use of anti-film and shock-cinema techniques. Biography Calson was born to a Romanian father and a History of the Jews in Romania, Jewish-Romanian mother. They left Bucharest when he was 7 years old and settled in Glendale, California. He went on to enroll at Antioch University in Los Angeles, California. Developing an interest in music at an early age, he eventually became a music writer for the now cancelled Los Angeles LGBT magazine "4-Front". Later Calson expanded his interests to include filmmaking. Calson's films include ''Shiner (2004 film), Shiner'' and ''Flirting with Anthony''. Rife with foul language and bad behavior, his characters and storylines are usually about sexual anxiety and a blurred line between sexuality and violence. Nicholas King
Nicholas King (March 21, 1933 – April 3, 2012) was an American actor and horticulturist who was instrumental in preserving the Watts Towers. Robert Nicholas King was born in Sacramento, California. After graduating from high school in 1951, King began taking acting lessons at the Pasadena Playhouse. King had uncredited roles in ''The Long, Hot Summer'' and as a medic in ''The Young Lions''. He had the role of Arnie in 1958's '' Joy Ride'' and Georgie in '' The Threat''. He also had a recurring role in the television version of the NBC soap opera ''One Man's Family''. In 1969 King returned to Northern California, where he became a partner in a land cooperative on the Garcia River in Point Arena. He opened a nursery and began grafting varieties of apple trees. King died in a Santa Rosa, California nursing home. He had battled Lewy body dementia for several years prior to his death. New York Blade
''The New York Blade'' was a free weekly newspaper focusing on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) issues in New York City, New York. The ''Blade'' was a member of the National Gay Newspaper Guild, and contained news, entertainment, classified ads, and free personals for men and women. History ''The New York Blade'' was founded in 1997 as a New York edition of the ''Washington Blade''. The paper immediately came under fire from gay rights advocates because of indications that Wilbur Ross would be involved with the new venture. The paper, along with the ''Washington Blade'', was acquired by Window Media, LLC in 2001, and both were then sold to HX Media in 2007. The ''San Francisco Chronicle'' is a newspaper serving primarily the San Francisco Bay Area of Northern California. Frameline
The Frameline Film Festival (aka San Francisco International LGBTQ+ Film Festival) (formerly San Francisco International LGBT Film Festival; San Francisco International Lesbian and Gay Film Festival) began as a storefront event in 1976. The first film festival, named the Gay Film Festival of Super-8 Films, was held in 1977. The festival is organized by Frameline, a nonprofit media arts organization whose mission statement is "to change the world through the power of queer cinema". It is the oldest LGBTQ+ film festival in the world. With annual attendance ranging from 60,000 to 80,000, it is the largest LGBTQ+ film exhibition event. Castro Theatre
The Castro Theatre is a historic movie palace in San Francisco that became San Francisco Historic Landmark #100 in September 1976. Located at 429 Castro Street in the Castro District, it was built in 1922 with a California Churrigueresque façade that pays homage—in its great arched central window surmounted by a scrolling pediment framing a niche—to the basilica of Mission Dolores nearby. Its designer, Timothy L. Pflueger, also designed Oakland's Paramount Theater and other movie theaters in California during that period. The theater has over 1,400 seats (approx 800 downstairs and 600 in the balcony). The theater's ceiling is the last known leatherette ceiling in the United States and possibly the world.
