Shine (Mary Black Album)
''Shine'' is Mary Black's ninth studio album released in 1997, where she abandons her usual sound and production. The album was recorded in Los Angeles, California, United States, with a combination of local session musicians and members of her Irish band. On production was Larry Klein (who had worked with Peter Gabriel and Joni Mitchell), and he aided in selecting songs from a new crop of songwriters. Most notably, Mary Black sang five songs written by David Gray. Black dedicated the album to the memory of Dave Early "a true friend and a gifted musician". Dave Early
Dave Early (5 April 1957 – 14 October 1996) was an English drummer and percussionist. He was best known as the original drummer for Sade. He also worked with Chris Rea, Van Morrison, The Chieftains, Mary Black, Ananta, and others. Later he moved to Belfast, where he played with traditional Irish artists.He Played Drums in the Belfast band Katmandu with the late great Marty Lundy .He frequently worked with drummer-percussionist Martin Ditcham Martin Ditcham is an English drummer, percussionist and songwriter. Greg Leisz
Gregory Brian Leisz ( ; born September 18, 1949) is an American musician. He is a songwriter, recording artist, and producer. He plays guitar, dobro, mandolin, lap steel and pedal steel guitar. Biography Leisz grew up in the garage band culture of mid-1960s Southern California. He spent time at the Ashgrove, the Troubador, and clubs on the Sunset Strip . He began playing guitar and soon added dobro and lap steel. He was inspired to pick up the pedal steel after hearing Sneaky Pete Kleinow and Buddy Emmons. In 1975, he toured with John Stewart (formerly of The Kingston Trio). He was a member of Funky Kings who released their eponymous debut album on Arista Records in 1976. After the band broke up, he became a popular musician both in the studio and on the road. In 1987, Leisz began working with Dave Alvin (formerly of The Blasters). Michael Christopher Landau (born June 1, 1958) is an American musician, audio engineer, and record producer. He is a session musician and guitarist who has played on many albums since the early 1980s with Boz Scaggs, Minoru Niihara, Joni Mitchell, Rod Stewart, Seal, Michael Jackson, James Taylor, Helen Watson, Luis Miguel, Richard Marx, Steve Perry, Pink Floyd, Phil Collins on " Two Hearts" and "Loco in Acapulco", Roger Daltrey, Stevie Nicks, Glenn Frey, Eros Ramazzotti, Whitney Houston, and Miles Davis. Jerome David Marotta (born February 6, 1956, in Cleveland, Ohio) is an American drummer who resides in Woodstock, New York. He is the younger brother of Rick Marotta, who is also a drummer and composer. David Batteau
David Hurst Batteau (born June 25, 1949) is an American singer-songwriter. Batteau is the son of Blanca Batteau and Dr. Dwight Wayne Batteau, of Harvard University and Tufts University. He is the brother of singer-songwriter Robin Batteau. History Batteau is widely credited for writing songs for various entertainers, including Seals and Crofts, Trisha Yearwood, Michael Sembello and Shawn Colvin. He also co-wrote several songs with Madeleine Peyroux and Larry Klein for Peyroux's 2009 album, '' Bare Bones''. Paul Joseph Brady (born 19 May 1947) is an Irish singer-songwriter and musician from Strabane, Northern Ireland. His work straddles folk and pop. He was interested in a wide variety of music from an early age. Richard Thompson (born 3 April 1949) is an English singer, songwriter, and guitarist. Thompson first gained prominence in the late 1960s as the lead guitarist and songwriter for the folk rock group Fairport Convention, which he had co-founded in 1967. After departing the group in 1971, Thompson released his debut solo album ''Henry the Human Fly'' in 1972. Tonio K. (born Vladamir Steven M. Krikorian, July 4, 1950) is an American singer/songwriter who has released eight albums. His songs have been recorded by Al Green, Aaron Neville, Burt Bacharach, Bonnie Raitt, Chicago, Wynonna Judd and Vanessa Williams, among many others. His song, "16 Tons of Monkeys," co-written with guitarist Steve Schiff, was the featured tune in the 1992 Academy Award winning Short Film, '' Session Man''. "Nobody Lives Without Love" is a song by Scottish singer-songwriter Eddi Reader, released in 1995 from the ''Batman Forever'' soundtrack.
