Shiloh–Scott Station
Shiloh-Scott is a St. Louis MetroLink station. Located adjacent to Scott Air Force Base in Shiloh, Illinois, this station is the eastern terminus of the MetroLink system. It opened on June 23, 2003, as part of Phase 2 of the St. Clair County Extension, which extended MetroLink from College to Shiloh-Scott. The Shiloh-Scott station is the terminus for the St. Clair County Transit District's 14 mile (22.5 km) MetroBikeLink shared-use path system. The 2.9 mile (4.7 km) segment connecting the College station to Shiloh-Scott was opened in 2017. Station layout The station is divided into two sections: one side is open to the general public and the other side to those with Scott Air Force Base security clearances. Each side has its own park and ride lot. Park And Ride
A park and ride, also known as incentive parking or a commuter lot, is a parking lot with public transport connections that allows commuters and other people heading to city centres to leave their vehicles and transfer to a bus, rail system (rapid transit, light rail, or commuter rail), or carpool for the remainder of the journey. The vehicle is left in the parking lot during the day and retrieved when the owner returns. Park and rides are generally located in the suburbs of metropolitan areas or on the outer edges of large cities. A park and ride that only offers parking for meeting a carpool and not connections to public transport may also be called a park and pool. Mascoutah
Mascoutah is a city in St. Clair County, Illinois, United States, named for the Mascoutens, a tribe of the Michigan Indians. The population was 7,483 at the 2010 census. According to the US Census Bureau, the population was estimated at 7,994 in 2019. History The town of Mascoutah was originally established in 1837 as Mechanicsburg. This was disputed with the establishment of a Post Office; the inhabitants were informed that another township in Illinois was already named Mechanicsburg. The town was renamed after the Mascouten tribe, and was officially designated Mascoutah in 1839. Mascoutah was considered a progressive town near the turn of the 20th century. The Red Line is the older and longer line of the MetroLink light rail service in St. Louis, Missouri, United States. It serves 29 stations across three counties and two states in Greater St. Louis. Island Platform
An island platform (also center platform, centre platform) is a station layout arrangement where a single platform is positioned between two tracks within a railway station, tram stop or transitway interchange. Island platforms are popular on twin-track routes due to pragmatic and cost reasons. They are also useful within larger stations where local and express services for the same direction of travel can be provided from opposite sides of the same platform thereby simplifying transfers between the two tracks. An alternative arrangement is to position side platforms on either side of the tracks. The historical use of island platforms depends greatly upon the location. College station is a St. Louis MetroLink station. This station serves Southwestern Illinois College and the Green Mount Commons shopping center near the eastern edge of Belleville, Illinois. It is also a large commuter station featuring 598 park and ride spaces and 25 long-term spaces. Shared-use Path
A shared-use path, mixed-use path or multi-use pathway is a path which is 'designed to accommodate the movement of pedestrians and cyclists'. Examples of shared-use paths include sidewalks designated as shared-use, bridleways and rail trails. A shared-use path typically has a surface that is asphalt, concrete or firmly packed crushed aggregate. Shared-use paths differ from cycle tracks and cycle paths in that shared-use paths are designed to include pedestrians even if the primary anticipated users are cyclists. The path may also permit other users such as inline skating. Contrastingly, Motorcycles and mopeds are normally prohibited. Shared-use paths sometimes provide different lanes for users who travel at different speeds to prevent conflicts between user groups on high-use trails.
