Shigeto Kawahara
is a Japanese phonetician and phonologist. He is currently an associate professor in the linguistics institute at Keio University. Before he moved to Keio, he worked for the University of Georgia and Rutgers University. He was awarded his BA (liberal arts) from International Christian University in 2002 and Ph.D. (Linguistics) from University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2007 under the supervision of John Kingston. Research Kawahara primarily investigates phonetic bases of emergent phonological patterns. In addition to issues on the phonetics-phonology interface, he also works on the experimental investigations of phonological judgments, syntax-phonology interface as well as the phonology-morphology interface. Shigeto is the stage name of Zachary Shigeto Saginaw, an American electronic musician originally from Ann Arbor, Michigan. His music has a diverse sound, influenced by jazz, his fellow Ghostly artists, and other sources. His melodic, beat oriented songs are a unique blend of instrumental hip hop and electronic music. Shigeto Tsuru
was a prominent Japanese politician and economist. Suzumura, Kotaro"Obituary – Shigeto Tsuru: life work and legacy". He was widely honored for his scholarship, including the Presidency of the International Economic Association. He received several honorary degrees, including one of two that were ever given to a Japanese citizen by Harvard University. Early life He was born in 1912, the son of a Nagoya engineer-industrialist. While in high school in Tokyo he became politically involved in 1929–30, as a student leader in the "Anti-Imperialist Leagues", activities against the Japanese military then in the early stages of aggression towards China. Dewa Shigetō
Baron was a Japanese admiral in the early days of the Imperial Japanese Navy. Biography Dewa was born as the son of a ''samurai'' of the Aizu domain (present day Fukushima prefecture). As a youth, he enlisted in the ''Byakkotai,'' a reserve unit of the Aizu domain's official military. The ''Byakkotai'' was called into action, and Dewa served at the Battle of Aizu in the Boshin War. Dewa attended the 5th class of the Imperial Japanese Naval Academy, graduating 6th out of 43 cadets. Shigeto Ikeda
was a Japanese people, Japanese physician, regarded as the "father" of fiberoptic bronchoscopy. He graduated from Keio University School of Medicine in 1952 and joined the Thoracic Surgery department. In 1966, he developed the first flexible bronchoscope in conjunction with Machida Endoscope Co. Ltd (later taken over by Pentax) and Olympus Corporation, Olympus Optical Co., Ltd. This allowed better visualisation of the upper lobe bronchus, bronchi than is possible with the rigid bronchoscope. Successive improvements under his supervision included the development of video-bronchoscopy. His motto was "there is more hope with the bronchoscope". References
