is a major railway station in Chūō-ku, Niigata, Japan, operated by East Japan Railway Company (JR East). Shibata Castle
is a flatland-style Japanese castle located in the city of Shibata, Niigata Prefecture, Japan. Throughout the Edo period, Shibata Castle was home to the Mizoguchi clan, ''daimyō'' of Shibata Domain. The castle was also known as . Background Shibata Castle is located at the center of the modern city of Shibata, approximately 20 kilometers east of the city of Niigata. Historically, the area was a vast marsh made by Shinano River and the Agano River, which were both important trade routes for Echigo Province. An island platform (also center platform, centre platform) is a station layout arrangement where a single platform is positioned between two tracks within a railway station, tram stop or transitway interchange. Island platforms are popular on twin-track routes due to pragmatic and cost reasons. They are also useful within larger stations where local and express services for the same direction of travel can be provided from opposite sides of the same platform thereby simplifying transfers between the two tracks.
