Shevchenkove, Shevchenkove Raion
Shevchenkove ( uk, Шевченкове, ) is an urban-type settlement in Ukraine in Kupiansk Raion, Kharkiv Oblast. It hosts the administration of Shevchenkove settlement hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. Population: The main railway station in Schevchenkove is Schevchenkove-South. History It started in 1896 as a village named Bulacelovka after the owner of that land, Bulacel. It was located in Kharkov Governorate of the Russian Empire. A local newspaper is published here since February 1935. During World War II it was under German occupation from February 1942 to February 1943. Kharkiv Oblast ( uk, Харківська́ о́бласть, translit=Kharkivska oblast), also referred to as Kharkivshchyna ( uk, Ха́рківщина), is an oblast (province) of eastern Ukraine. Territorial Defense Forces (Ukraine)
The Territorial Defence Forces ( uk, Війська територіальної оборони, translit=Viiska terytorialnoi oborony) are the military reserve component of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The Territorial Defence Forces were formed after the reorganization of the Territorial Defence Battalions, volunteer militias created during the War in Donbas under the command of the Ministry of Defence. Territorial Defence units existed from 2015 until 2021 in semi-organized forms until 2022 when they were formally organized into a unified defense corps under the Territorial Defence Forces. It is formed by a core of part-time reservists, usually former combat veterans, and in cases of war can be expanded to local civilian volunteers for local defense, in a case of mass mobilization. The Battle of Shevchenkove was the second battle of the Ukrainian Kharkiv counteroffensive that began on September 7, 2022. Background During the early days of the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, Russian forces captured much of eastern Kharkiv Oblast, including the towns of Kupiansk, Shevchenkove, and Balakliia. Balakliia itself was captured on March 3, 2022, without much of a fight. From March to early May, most of the fighting in Kharkiv Oblast was concentrated in the cities of Kharkiv and Izium. Shevchenkove Raion () was a raion (district) in Kharkiv Oblast of Ukraine. Its administrative center was the urban-type settlement of Shevchenkove. A hromada ( uk, територіальна громада, lit=territorial community, translit=terytorialna hromada) is a basic unit of administrative division in Ukraine, similar to a municipality. It was established by the Government of Ukraine on 12 June 2020. Similar terms exist in Poland (''gromada'') and in Belarus (''hramada'').
