Sheridan High School is a comprehensive four-year public high school located in Sheridan, Arkansas, United States. It is one of two public high schools in Grant County and the sole high school administered by the Sheridan School District. In 2012, Sheridan High School was nationally recognized as a silver medalist in the '' U.S. News & World Report'' Best High Schools 2012 report, which ranked the school as the No. 1,976 high school in the nation and No. 21 in Arkansas. Sheridan High School was ranked No. 1,271 of 2,008 high schools in the 2012 Challenge Index high school scoring system with an index score of 1.683, which is the number of college-level tests given at a school in 2011 divided by the number of graduates that year. Sheridan is a city and county seat of Grant County, Arkansas, United States. The community is located deep in the forests of the Arkansas Timberlands. It sits at the intersection of US Highways 167 and 270. Early settlers were drawn to the area by the native timber, which is still a very important part of Sheridan's economy, although the city has diversified into several other industries. Sheridan's history also includes a college, Missionary Baptist College, until its closure in 1934, and a series of conflicts during the Civil Rights Movement. Located at the southern end of the Central Arkansas region, Sheridan has been experiencing a population boom in recent years, as indicated by a 49% growth in population between the 1990 and 2010 censuses. The Arkansas Commissioner of State Lands is an executive position and constitutional officer within the Arkansas government which has been an elective post since 1874. Land Commissioners are elected to four year terms. The current state Land Commissioner is Republican Tommy Land. Powers and duties The Land Commissioner is responsible for collecting delinquent taxes on real estate through public auction whenever parcels are certified as such by county tax collectors. John Thurston (politician)
John Manuel Thurston (born December 27, 1972) is the current Secretary of State of Arkansas; elected in November 2018, he has served in the position since January 2019. He previously served as Arkansas Commissioner of State Lands. A Republican, he was first elected to that position in November 2010, took office in January 2011, and was reelected in November 2014 to a second term. Early life Thurston graduated in 1991 from Sheridan High School in Grant County in southern Arkansas. He then attended Agape College in the capital city of Little Rock. John Little McClellan
John Little McClellan (February 25, 1896 – November 28, 1977) was an American lawyer and a segregationist politician. A member of the Democratic Party, he served as a U.S. Representative (1935–1939) and a U.S. Senator (1943–1977) from Arkansas. At the time of his death, he was the second most senior member of the Senate and chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee. He is the longest-serving senator in Arkansas history. Raymond Hamilton (June 6, 1916 – February 13, 1995) was a standout football and basketball player for the University of Arkansas and a professional football player in the National Football League where he played for the Cleveland / Los Angeles Rams and the Detroit Lions. College career A member of the Arkansas Razorbacks 1930's All-Decade Team, he lettered in football in 1935, 1936, and 1937. David Delano Glover (January 18, 1868 – April 5, 1952) was a U.S. Representative from Arkansas's 6th congressional district. Life and work Born in Prattsville in Grant County, Glover attended the public schools of Prattsville and Sheridan, the seat of Grant County. He was graduated in 1886 from Sheridan High School.
