Mahishamardini Temple
Mahishamardini Temple Complex is in Shergarh, Balasore district of Odisha, India nearly 2.5 km from Balasore Phandi chowk. It is dedicated to goddess Mahishamardini. There are several broken images which are kept under the care of Archeological Survey of India. Rituals The current priests belong to Panda Utkala Brahmins. The temple is patronised by a Senapati family. Celebrations for Navaratri and Dussehra are the major ones. The Durga is depicted in eight-armed pose slaying the demon Mahishasura. A Shiva temple is also found in the campus. Architecture The temple can be dated back to 11th century AD, during Somavamsi rule. The temple was renovated during the 19th century. It is a Rekha Deula. Shergarh is a village located in the Jodhpur District of Rajasthan state in western India. It is a panchayat village as well as being the tehsil headquarters for Shergarh tehsil. History Before Sher Shah Suri's conquest, the town was known as Kōśavardhana. Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism thrived co-existentially in the area, as is evident from the various inscriptions dating back to at least the 8th century A.D. Accordingly to one epigraph, there flourished a great religious establishment of the Jains side by side with a Buddhist monastery and a Shaivite shrine. Shergarh is a town and a nagar panchayat in Bareilly district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It is a small town known for rice and sugarcane. Location Shergarh is located about 7 miles west of Deoranian railway station situated on Lucknow-Kathgodam Railway line. History Shergarh was originally called Kabar, and it was alternately a stronghold of the Katehria Rajputs and the Delhi Sultanate. Very little remains of the earliest periods of settlement. Purana Qila () is one of the oldest forts in Delhi, India. Built by the second Mughal Emperor Humayun and Surid Sultan Sher Shah Suri, it is thought by many to be located on the site of the ancient city of Indraprastha.
