Sheppard Pratt at Ellicott City is a private psychiatric hospital located in Ellicott City, Maryland. It currently has a 20-bed adult unit, an 18-bed co-occurring disorders unit, an 18-bed crisis stabilization unit, a 22-bed adolescent unit, and an adult day hospital. The hospital is owned and operated by the Towson, Maryland based Sheppard Pratt Health System Prior to its purchase by Sheppard Pratt the facility was known as Taylor Manor, one of only a dozen privately owned psychiatric facilities in the nation. The hospital is expected to close with the opening of Sheppard Pratt at Elkridge in 2020. Chestnut Lodge (formerly known as Woodlawn Hotel) was a historic building in Rockville, Maryland, United States, well known as a psychiatric institution. It was a contributing property to the West Montgomery Avenue Historic District. History Early History In 1886, Charles G. Willson commissioned an architect to build a four-story brick "summer boarding house" on of land he had purchased in the west of Rockville. During the construction of the building, Willson filed for bankruptcy, and the unfinished building was bought for $6000 by Mary J. Colley (the owner of the Clarendon Hotel in Washington DC) and her partner Charles W. Bell. Under their ownership, the building was opened as the Woodlawn Hotel in the spring of 1889. The hotel boasted electric bells, gas lighting and 40 luxurious guest rooms and was extremely successful, catering to rich visitors from Washington DC who often boarded in the hotel during the summer months. Ronald Franklin (December 20, 1959 – March 8, 2018) was a Eclipse Award winning American jockey. At the age of only nineteen, he rode the champion racehorse Spectacular Bid to win the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes. Early life Franklin was born in Baltimore, Maryland and grew up in nearby Dundalk where he was the youngest of six children. He attended Patapsco High School where he briefly played on the school's baseball team. Because he was so small in stature (4 foot 7 inches or 1.40 m tall and weighed 72 pounds), the coach would insert him into the line-up, hoping to draw a base on balls. Chlorpromazine (CPZ), marketed under the brand names Thorazine and Largactil among others, is an antipsychotic medication. It is primarily used to treat psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia.
