Shepley
Shepley is a village in the civil parish of Kirkburton, in Kirklees, West Yorkshire, England, and in the Diocese of Wakefield. It lies south south east of Huddersfield and north west of Penistone. In the 2011 census the population of Shepley and Birdsedge was 2,851. History Early origins Historically the name 'Shepley' derives from Old English ''sceap'' ('sheep') and ''leah'' ('clearing'), thus meaning 'a clearing or meadow where sheep are kept'. However, Shepley is also situated on one of several local leys comprising Crossley, Longley, Shepley, Shelley, West Yorkshire, Shelley, Emley, West Yorkshire, Emley, East Midgley, Coxley, Stanley, Scholey, Methley and Astley. The ley idea was introduced by antiquarian Alfred Watkins in his book 'The Old Straight Track' in 1925. Kirkburton
Kirkburton is a village, civil parishes in England, civil parish and ward in Kirklees in West Yorkshire, England. It is south-east of Huddersfield. Historic counties of England, Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, the township comprises the villages of Kirkburton and Highburton and several hamlets, including Thunder Bridge, Thorncliffe, West Yorkshire, Thorncliffe, Storthes Hall, Burton Royd, Riley, Dogley, Common Side, Causeway Foot, Lane Head and Linfit. West Yorkshire
West Yorkshire is a metropolitan and ceremonial county in the Yorkshire and Humber Region of England. A629 Road
The A629 road is an inter-Yorkshire road that runs from Skipton to Rotherham through Keighley, Halifax, Huddersfield and Chapeltown in Yorkshire, England. The road runs through North, West and South Yorkshire, but before 1974, the entire length of the road was wholly within the boundaries of the West Riding of Yorkshire. It is designated as a primary route through most of its length. The road is part of the intended Doncaster to Kendal Trunk Route which was designated as a trunk road in 1946. Parts of the road are designated as a High Load Route by the UK Government although the section through Burncross to Chapeltown is designated as B road (B6546) because of a weight restriction.
