Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra
Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra () is a symphony orchestra based in and supported by the municipality of Shenzhen, China. It was established in 1982 and is led by General Manager Chen Chuansong. Since 1987, Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra has annually toured China, having visited Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau several times. It has also visited Berlin and Prague. The Orchestra has welcomed guest conductors from China and abroad throughout its history, including Li Delun, Han Zhongjie, Zheng Xiaoying, Bian Zushan, Huang Xiaotong, Chen Xieyang, Zhang Guoyong, Chen Zuohuang and Shao En. Yao Guanrong served as the Principal Conductor of the Orchestra from 1985 to 1997. The position of Artistic Director was held by Zhang Guoyong from 1998 to 2000 and by Yu Feng from 2001 to 2007 and has been held by German conductor Christian Ehwald since 2008. Erich Kunzel
Erich Kunzel, Jr. (March 21, 1935 – September 1, 2009) was an American orchestra conductor. Called the "Prince of Pops" by the '' Chicago Tribune'', he performed with a number of leading pops and symphony orchestras, especially the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra (CPO), which he led for 32 years. Early life and career Kunzel was born to German-American immigrant parents in New York City. At Greenwich High School in Connecticut, he arranged music and played the piano, string bass and timpani. Initially a chemistry major, Kunzel graduated from Dartmouth College with a degree in music, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta, then studied at Harvard and Brown universities. José Carreras
Josep Maria Carreras Coll (; born 5 December 1946), better known as José Carreras (, ), is a Spanish operatic tenor who is particularly known for his performances in the operas of Donizetti, Verdi and Puccini. Born in Barcelona, he made his debut on the operatic stage at 11 as Trujamán in Manuel de Falla's ''El retablo de Maese Pedro'', and went on to a career that encompassed over 60 roles, performing in the world's leading opera houses and on numerous recordings. Sa Chen (; born 21 November 1979) is a Chinese pianist. She won first prize in the 1994 China International Piano Competition, fourth place in the XIV International Chopin Piano Competition in 2000, fourth place in the Leeds International Piano Competition and was third in the 2005 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. Biography Both of Chen's parents were members of an art troupe in the People's Liberation Army, and later transferred to the Performing Arts Group of Chongqing City. Her father played the French horn, and her mother was a ballet dancer. She began to study the violin at the age of five, but soon switched to piano. Tan Dun (, ; born 18 August 1957) is a Chinese-born American composer and conductor. A leading figure of contemporary classical music, he draws from a variety of Western and Chinese influences, a dichotomy which has shaped much of his life and music.
