Shelby Johnson (known as Shelby J.) is an American singer/songwriter. She is known for her work with her mentor, Prince, and her debut solo album ''10'' in 2017. Career Shelby J. began performing in 1994 in North Carolina. She reached a worldwide audience with her mix of gospel, R&B, funk, and soul. She performed alongside and collaborated with musical greats, including Carlos Santana, Roy Hargrove, Mary J. Blige, Jonathan Timber, Joel Henry Kiser, Larry Graham, Anthony Hamilton and D’Angelo. She performed on Kmart’s “ Right Here, Right Now” marketing campaign, covering the Jesus Jones song. She joined the New Power Generation in 2006, and contributed to a number of Prince projects, including ''Planet Earth'', ''20Ten'', and ''LotusFlow3r''. Her largest input was in the posthumous album Welcome 2 America, in which she led vocals and raps on a number of tracks. Greensboro (; formerly Greensborough) is a city in and the county seat of Guilford County, North Carolina, United States. The New Power Generation
The New Power Generation, also known as The NPG, was the backing band of musician Prince from 1990 to 2013. They were replaced by 3rdeyegirl as his backing band in 2013. In 2015, the New Power Generation reunited as Prince's backing band for his final studio album before his death, '' Hit n Run Phase Two''. They reunited once again in 2017 for a US and European tour. History The phrase "Welcome to the New Power Generation" was mentioned on the opening track of 1988's ''Lovesexy''. Ida Kristine Nielsen
Ida Kristine Nielsen (born 1975), also known as Bass Ida, Bassida, and Ida Funkhouser, is a Danish bassplayer, composer and vocalist. She is known for being a member of several bands, such as Belgian Zap Mama, Danish pop rock band Michael Learns to Rock, American funk band the New Power Generation, and funk rock trio 3rdeyegirl (2012–present). The latter two were backing bands for Prince. History Nielsen started playing bass at age 16. During 1993–1998 she studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Music and finished her diploma with electric bass as her major instrument. In 2008 she released her first solo album, ''Marmelade''. In 2010 Nielsen started working with Prince, and became a member of The New Power Generation as singer and bassist. She later became a part of Prince's musical trio, 3rdeyegirl, alongside guitarist Donna Grantis and drummer Hannah Welton. Liv Warfield
Liv Warfield is an American R&B singer-songwriter from Peoria, Illinois. She was part of Prince's New Power Generation and as of 2016 is with Roadcase Royale, a band formed with Nancy Wilson and members of Heart. Personal life and career Warfield grew up the daughter of a Pentecostal deacon, listening to gospel music, in a strict background that didn't allow her to listen to secular music; she used to sing Whitney Houston songs to herself when her parents weren't around. She graduated from Peoria Notre Dame High School in 1997. Warfield later moved from Peoria to go to college in Portland, Oregon on a track scholarship at Portland State University. Her interest in public singing started at a karaoke club but she was so nervous on her first try that she sang with her back facing the audience. Background In 2008, Tal Wilkenfeld received a phone call from Prince. The 21-year-old, Australian-born musician was surprised to hear Prince on the other end of the line, who said he had been watching YouTube videos of her on repeat. Prince brought Wilkenfeld to parties at his Los Angeles home where sometimes he and his band played and she was their lone audience member, spent a few days jamming in a local studio and drove around together in a limo listening to music. It contains the thirty-third and thirty-fourth studio albums by Prince, ''Lotusflow3r'' (stylized as ''LOtUSFLOW3R'') and ''MPLSound'' (stylized as ''MPLSoUND''), as well as ''Elixer'', the debut studio album by Bria Valente. ''20Ten'' is the thirty-fifth studio album by American recording artist Prince. It was released on July 10, 2010, by NPG Records as a free covermount with the ''Daily Mirror'' and '' Daily Record'' in the UK and Ireland, and '' Het Nieuwsblad'' and ''De Gentenaar'' in Belgium. It was also released on July 22, 2010, with ''Rolling Stone'' magazine in Germany, and ''Courrier International'' in France. The album was produced, arranged, composed, and performed by Prince at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota. It is his thirty-third studio album released in the UK. ''20Ten'' contains musical elements of funk, pop, rock, and soul music. Some titles of the tracks from the album were revealed as clues in Prince's song "Cause and Effect" which was released to radio earlier in 2010.
