Sheila White (activist)
Sheila White (born 1988) is an African-American anti–sex trafficking activist, and a former human trafficking victim herself, from The Bronx, New York City. Background White grew up in a dysfunctional home and, during her teen years, was placed in foster care, where she was raped. She then attempted suicide and was transferred to a psychiatric hospital. At the age of 15, she was living in a group home, where she was abused by a pimp who forced her into prostitution. While a prostitute, White was battered, raped, and branded with irons. In 2003, she was battered next to the Port Authority Bus Terminal, without anyone even asking her if she needed help. White eventually escaped from being trafficked and went on to work with Girls Educational and Mentoring Services in order to raise awareness on the issue in New York, and President Obama recognized her work by personally giving her an award at the Clinton Global Initiative. Procuring (prostitution)
Procuring or pandering is the facilitation or provision of a prostitute or other sex worker in the arrangement of a sex act with a customer. A procurer, colloquially called a pimp (if male) or a madam (if female, though the term pimp has still extensively been used for female procurers as well) or a brothel keeper, is an agent for prostitutes who collects part of their earnings. The procurer may receive this money in return for advertising services, physical protection, or for providing and possibly monopolizing a location where the prostitute may solicit clients. ''Post-'' (stylized in all caps) is the third solo album by American singer-songwriter Jeff Rosenstock. It was released on January 1, 2018, without any promotional lead-up. The album was released on Polyvinyl Record Co. in the United States and by Specialist Subject Records in the United Kingdom. Much of ''Post-'' was written in the Catskill Mountains shortly after the 2016 presidential election. ''Not My Life'' is a 2011 American independent documentary film about human trafficking and contemporary slavery. The film was written, produced, and directed by Robert Bilheimer, who had been asked to make the film by Antonio Maria Costa, executive director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. Bilheimer planned ''Not My Life'' as the second installment in a trilogy, the first being '' A Closer Walk'' and the third being the unproduced ''Take Me Home''. The title ''Not My Life'' came from a June 2009 interview with Molly Melching, founder of Tostan, who said that many people deny the reality of contemporary slavery because it is an uncomfortable truth, saying, "No, this is not my life."
