Shefford (provincial Electoral District)
Shefford is a former provincial electoral district in the Montérégie region of Quebec, Canada. As of its final election, it included the cities of Granby and Waterloo. It was created for the 1867 election (and existed prior to that in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada). Its final election was in 2008. It disappeared in the 2012 election. The western half became Granby, while most of the eastern portion joined Brome-Missisquoi. La Haute-Yamaska Regional County Municipality
La Haute-Yamaska (meaning ''The Upper Yamaska'') is a regional county municipality in the Estrie region of Quebec, Canada. Its seat is Granby, Quebec, Granby. It is named for its position at the height of the Yamaska River, which cuts through its southern part. It rises at Brome Lake located in neighbouring Brome-Missisquoi Regional County Municipality. On January 1, 2010, the city of Bromont, Quebec, Bromont left La Haute-Yamaska; it was reclassified to the Brome-Missisquoi Regional County Municipality, Brome-Missisquoi RCM. In 2021, it was transferred to the Estrie region from Montérégie. Quebec Liberal Party
The Quebec Liberal Party (QLP; french: Parti libéral du Québec, PLQ) is a provincial political party in Quebec. It has been independent of the federal Liberal Party of Canada since 1955. The QLP has always been associated with the colour red; each of their main opponents in different eras have been generally associated with the colour blue. The QLP has traditionally supported a form of Quebec federalist ideology with nuanced Canadian nationalist tones that supports Quebec remaining within the Canadian federation, while also supporting reforms that would allow substantial autonomism in Quebec. Union Nationale (Quebec)
The Union nationale () was a conservative and nationalist provincial political party in Quebec, Canada, that identified with Québécois autonomism. It was created during the Great Depression and held power in Quebec from 1936 to 1939, and from 1944 to 1960 and from 1966 to 1970. The party was founded by Maurice Duplessis, who led it until his death in 1959. The party was often referred to in English as the National Union, especially when it was still an electoral force, by both the media and, at times, the party. Hector Choquette (October 3, 1884 – May 8, 1959) was a Canadian politician and Member of the Legislative Assembly of Quebec (MLA). Early life He was born on October 3, 1884 near Granby, Estrie and became a farmer. Member of the legislature He ran as an Action libérale nationale candidate in the district of Shefford in the 1935 provincial election and won. Choquette joined Maurice Duplessis's Union Nationale and was re-elected in the 1936 election. He was defeated by Liberal candidate Charles Munson Bullock in the 1939 election. Political comeback Choquette was re-elected in the 1944 and 1948 elections. He lost his bid for re-election in the 1952 elections and was succeeded by Liberal candidate Gaston Ledoux. William Stephen Bullock
William Stephen Bullock (3 August 1865 – 13 November 1936) was a Canadian Baptist minister, businessman, and politician. Born in Sainte-Pudentienne near Shefford, Canada East, the son of William Henry Bullock, a farmer, and Hanna Chartier, Bullock studied at the mission of Grande-Ligne, the Montreal Normal School, McGill University, and Andover Newton Theological School in Massachusetts. He was ordained a Baptist minister in Ottawa on 18 February 1892. He ministered in Ottawa, Maskinongé and Saint Pudentienne until 1907. He then worked as a manager and secretary of the Stanley Tool Company of Canada Limited. He was the founder of the Roxton Pond Mill Company. He was a city council member from St. Pudentienne Village from January 1908 to January 1914. He was elected as a Liberal MLA in Shefford in 1912. He was re-elected without opposition in 1916. Tancrède Boucher de Grosbois (November 6, 1846 – September 30, 1926) was a physician and political figure in Quebec. He represented Shefford in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec from 1888 to 1892 and from 1897 to 1903 as a Liberal. He was born in Chambly, Canada East, the son of Dr. Charles-Henri Boucher de Grosbois and Émilie-Magdeleine Boucher de Boucherville, the daughter of seigneur Pierre-Amable Boucher de Boucherville. Boucher de Grosbois was educated privately, then at the Collège de Saint-Hyacinthe and McGill University. He received his qualifications as a doctor in 1868 and practised in Longueuil, Saint-Bruno, Roxton Falls and Chambly. In 1870, he was married to Dorothée Bruneau. He was an unsuccessful candidate for the Canadian House of Commons in 1872 and for a seat in the Quebec assembly in 1881.
