Sheffield Hockey Club is a field hockey club based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. The club is also known as Sheffield Hallam as a result of the partnership with Sheffield Hallam University. About The men's 1st XI play in the Men's England Hockey League. The ladies' 1XI play in the North Hockey League. The club fields nine men's sides, five ladies' sides and junior sides based on a range of age groups. Abbeydale Park
Abbeydale Park is a sports venue in Dore, South Yorkshire, England. It is unusual in having hosted home games for two different county cricket teams. History The Park first opened for cricket in 1921, with the first pavilion being completed the following year. Its first tenant was the Sheffield Collegiate Cricket Club. The ground was in Derbyshire until the county boundary was redrawn in 1934, and Derbyshire County Cricket Club played two first-class matches there in 1946 and 1947. With the closure of Bramall Lane to cricket, Yorkshire County Cricket Club began playing at the venue in 1974, and continued regular matches until 1996. In 2007, the club returned to the ground for some second team games. In addition to cricket, football was also played at the Park, with Sheffield F.C., the oldest football club in the world, played there from September 1921 until 1988. Sheffield has a long history of involvement in sport. Although cricket was the first organised sport, it has gradually been supplanted by football. Both the main two local football teams grew out of cricket teams. Sheffield can claim many firsts in football the most famous one being Sheffield F.C. being the world's first and oldest football club. Today it has a club in every major team sport in England. Thomas Callum Sorsby (born 28 October 1996) is an English field hockey player who plays as a midfielder or defender for Dutch Hoofdklasse club Den Bosch and the England and Great Britain national teams. Club career Sorsby played club hockey in the Men's England Hockey League Premier Division for Surbiton until 2023. He joined Surbiton for the 2018–19 season, from the University of Nottingham. Phillip Andrew "Phil" Roper (born 24 January 1992) is an English field hockey player who plays as a midfielder or forward for Dutch club Oranje-Rood in the Dutch Hoofdklasse and the England and Great Britain national teams. Club career Roper joined Dutch club Oranje-Rood for the 2021–22 season, for at least two seasons. He previously played club hockey in the Men's England Hockey League Premier Division for Wimbledon. He started playing hockey, aged 8, for his local club Chester HC and played there for ten years before going to university, where he played for Sheffield Hallam. Dore, South Yorkshire
Dore is a large village in South Yorkshire, England. The village lies on a hill above the River Sheaf which gave Sheffield its name and, until 1934, was part of Derbyshire but it is now a suburb of the city. Dore and Totley was the only ward of the city which regularly elected a Conservative councillor; however, as of May 2016, all three councillors were Liberal Democrats. The Member of Parliament for the Sheffield Hallam constituency, of which Dore is part, is Olivia Blake (Labour) who was elected in 2019. History The name ''Dore'' is most likely to derive from one of two possible origins. It could be the same Old English root as ''door'', signifying a 'gateway' or pass between two kingdoms.
