She Creature
''She Creature'' (originally billed as ''Mermaid Chronicles Part 1: She Creature'') is a 2001 horror made-for-television film, directed by Sebastian Gutierrez and starring Rufus Sewell, Carla Gugino and Rya Kihlstedt in leading roles. It is the first in a series of films made for Cinemax paying tribute to the films of American International Pictures. The films in this tribute series reused the titles of old American International Pictures films, in this case the 1956 film ''The She-Creature'', but are not remakes of the earlier films. This film was shot in 18 days. Plot In 1905, in Ireland, two carnies, Angus Shaw and his infertile wife Lily, encounter a Mr. Woolrich during one of their shows. Having heard that a mermaid will be on show, he is relieved to find that it is just Lily impersonating one. The She-Creature
''The She-Creature'', or ''The She Creature'', is a 1956 American black-and-white science fiction horror film, released by American International Pictures from a script by Lou Rusoff (brother-in-law of AIP executive Samuel Z. Arkoff). It was produced by Alex Gordon, directed by Edward L. Cahn, and stars Chester Morris, Marla English and Tom Conway, and casting Frieda Inescort and El Brendel in smaller roles. (The producers hired Marla English because they thought she bore a strong resemblance to Elizabeth Taylor.) The monster costume was created by master make-up artist Paul Blaisdell and is considered one of his best. Parts of the costume were re-used in three later AIP films. Blaisdell nicknamed the monster "Cuddles". The costume was eventually destroyed in a flood that hit his Topanga Canyon home in 1979. Sebastian Gutierrez
Sebastián Gutiérrez (born September 10, 1974) is a Venezuelan film director, screenwriter and film producer. He wrote the screenplays to the films ''Gothika'', ''Snakes on a Plane'', '' The Eye'' and '' The Big Bounce'', and wrote and directed two independent ensemble comedies, ''Women in Trouble'' and ''Elektra Luxx''. Gutiérrez has also won the Critics' Award at the ''Festival du Film Policier de Cognac'' for his directorial debut '' Judas Kiss''. In 2019, the Cinemax series '' Jett'' he created premiered, and he also wrote, directed as well as executive produced all of its episodes.
