Lucy Thane (born 1967) is a British documentary filmmaker, event producer and performer, living in Folkestone. Her films include ''It Changed My Life: Bikini Kill in the UK'' (1993) and ''She's Real (Worse than Queer)'' (1997). Life and work Thane was born in north London. She studied history at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, then studied for a master's degree in film at the Northern Media School in Sheffield. From 1994 to 1998 she lived in San Francisco, where she worked as a curator and editor at Artists' Television Access and taught at the Academy of Art College. She returned to London in 1998. For ''It Changed My Life: Bikini Kill in the UK'' (1993) she followed the 1990s riot grrrl band Bikini Kill while they were on tour in the UK with Huggy Bear. Lynn Breedlove (also known as Lynnee Breedlove) is an American musician, writer, and performer who was born in Oakland, California, United States. Early life Lynn Breedlove was born in and grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area during early childhood and then lived in Alameda and Oakland, California as a teenager. Breedlove's father was a high school teacher of partial Native American ancestry and Breedlove's mother was a secretary who originally hailed from Germany. Breedlove was an only child. Sta-Prest (band)
Sta-Prest was a multi-racial queercore and riot grrrl band from San Francisco that was active in the 1990s. The group members included Aloofah (Iraya Robles) and D.M. Feelings (Gary Fembot). Musical career The band first made its appearance on the queercore record label Outpunk Records in 1994, on its compilation ''Outpunk Dance Party''. Soon afterwards they released their first EP, ''Vespa Sex'', also on Outpunk, followed in 1996 by the 7" single "Let's Be Friendly With Our Friends/You Are The Company Spy". Sister George
Sister George was an English queercore band from London that was formed in 1994. The group's name was inspired by the 1968 film ''The Killing of Sister George'', which was an adaptation of the play of the same name. Although queercore bands had existed in the UK in the 1980s, such as The Apostles/Academy 23, and No Brain Cells and in the early 1990s, such as Tongue Man, Sister George brought queercore into the spotlight there. Fifth Column was a Canadian all-female post-punk band from Toronto, formed in the early 1980s. History The band took the name ''Fifth Column'' from their interpretation of an alleged military manoeuvre by fascist Francisco Franco during the Spanish Civil War, in which Nazi-aligned nationalist insurrectionists within besieged Republican Madrid, called the Fifth column, aided the four columns (north, south, east and west) outside the city's perimeters. Soon after forming, the group became involved in the Cassette culture of the 1980s. Tammy Rae Carland (born January 27, 1965), is a photographer, video artist, zine editor, current provost at California College of the Arts (CCA), and former co-owner of the independent lesbian music label Mr. Lady Records and Videos. Her work has been published, screened, and exhibited around the world in galleries and museums in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Berlin, and Sydney. Early life Carland was born in Portland, Maine in 1965. She grew up with 4 siblings and was raised by her single mother. She was the first in her family to graduate from high school. G. B. Jones (born 1965) is a Canadian artist, filmmaker, musician, and publisher of zines born in Bowmanville, Canada. She is known for producing J.D.s with her acclaimed''Tom Girls'' drawings before going on to create more musically, cinematically, and artistically. Candy Ass Records was an independent record label in Portland, Oregon that was run by Jody Bleyle, a member of the bands Team Dresch and Hazel and of the queercore bands Family Outing and Infinite Xs. The label is best known for the 1995 release of the double LP compilation '' Free to Fight''. Featuring all-women bands and musicians such as The Third Sex, Rebecca Gates of The Spinanes, Fifth Column, Containe, Heavens to Betsy, Excuse 17, Lois, Cheesecake and Team Dresch, all contributing songs dealing with women's safety, defense against harassment and rape and pertinent topics surrounding these issues. Jody Bleyle
Team Dresch is an American punk rock band originally formed in 1993 in Olympia, Washington. The band made a significant impression on the DIY punk movement queercore, which gave voice through zines and music to the passions and concerns of LGBT people in the punk scene. History In 1993, Donna Dresch formed Team Dresch with herself playing guitar and bass, Jody Bleyle on guitar and vocals, Kaia Wilson on guitar and vocals, and Marcéo Martinez on drums. Donna Dresch is an American punk rock musician, perhaps best known as founder, guitarist and bass guitarist of Team Dresch. Dresch has been actively involved in the queercore scene since the 1980s, as the creator of the fanzine ''Chainsaw'' and contributor to several other zines such as '' Outpunk'' and ''J.D.s'', as well as contributing and being featured on the front cover of issue five of Deke Nihilson and Tom Jennings' zine '' Homocore''. Additionally, she was a contributor to Tobi Vail's influential proto-Riot Grrrl fanzine, ''Jigsaw'' and Tammy Rae Carland's zine ''I (heart) Amy Carter''.
