Shay Avital
Shay Avital Rapoport (; born in 1952) is a Aluf, Major General (Ret.) in the Israel Defense Forces, IDF and former head of the Special Operations Forces Command (Depth Corps). During his military career Avital was, among others, Commander of Sayeret Matkal, the 36th Armored Division and the Northern Corpus. Military service Avital Conscription in Israel, enlisted to the Israel Defense Forces, IDF in 1970 and volunteered to serve in Sayeret Matkal (The General Staff Reconnaissance Unit). After completing a Paratroopers Brigade, paratroopers' basic training, he began the Sayeret Matkal#Recruitment and training, advanced infantry training route with the Unit. The trainee's Company Commander at the time was Yonatan Netanyahu, Yoni Netanyahu, by whom Avital has said to have been greatly influenced. Moshav
A moshav ( he, מוֹשָׁב, plural ', lit. ''settlement, village'') is a type of Israeli town or settlement, in particular a type of cooperative agricultural community of individual farms pioneered by the Labour Zionists between 1904 and 1914, during what is known as the second wave of ''aliyah''. A resident or a member of a moshav can be called a "moshavnik" (). The moshavim are similar to kibbutzim with an emphasis on community labour. They were designed as part of the Zionist state-building programme following the green revolution Yishuv ("settlement") in the British Mandate of Palestine during the early 20th century, but in contrast to the collective farming kibbutzim, farms in a moshav tended to be individually owned but of fixed and equal size. Workers produced crops and other goods on their properties through individual or pooled labour with the profit and foodstuffs going to provide for themselves. Rafael "Raful" Eitan ( he, רפאל "רפול" איתן, born 11 January 1929 – 23 November 2004) was an Israeli general, former Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces (Ramatkal) and later a politician, a Knesset member, and government minister. Early life Rafael Eitan was born as Rafael Kaminsky in the moshav of Tel Adashim near Nazareth in 1929, to Eliyahu and Miriam Eitan, Ukrainian Jewish immigrants to Palestine. His father was one of the founders of the Jewish defense organization Hashomer. Rafael was raised in the community of Tel Adashim. Zvi Nishri (Orloff), a pioneer in modern physical education in Israel, was his uncle. 36th Division (IDF)
The 36th Armored Division, also known as the Ga'ash Formation ("Rage"), is the largest regular-service armored division in the Armored Corps of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). It was subordinate to the Northern Regional Command until February 2014. The division was established in September 1954 and until 1958 was led by ''Aluf'' Avraham Yoffe. At the time, divisional commands were mission-based commands without organic forces, but rather with troops apportioned according to given missions. Meir Har-Zion ( he, מאיר הר ציון; February 25, 1934 – March 14, 2014) was an Israeli military commando. Yonatan Netanyahu
Yonatan "Yoni" Netanyahu ( he, יונתן נתניהו; March 13, 1946 – July 4, 1976) was an American-born Israel Defense Forces (IDF) officer who commanded the elite commando unit Sayeret Matkal during Operation Entebbe, an operation to rescue hostages held at Entebbe Airport in Uganda in 1976. 102 of the 106 hostages were rescued, but Netanyahu was killed in action—the only IDF fatality during the operation. The 35th Brigade ( he, חֲטִיבַת הַצַּנְחָנִים, ''Hativat HaTzanhanim''), also known as the Paratroopers Brigade, is an infantry brigade unit of paratroopers within the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), and forms a major part of the Infantry Corps. Conscription in Israel has been in place since the country's independence in 1948, and is limited to Israelis of three ethnicities: Jews (both genders), Druze (male only), and Circassians (male only).
