Shawfield Amateurs F.C.
Shawfield Amateurs Football Club were a Scottish association football, football team located in the town of Rutherglen that competed in the Scottish Amateur Football League, and also the Scottish Cup in the 1940s and 1950s. Scottish Cup Shawfield Amateurs appears to have been a works team associated with the large J & J White chemical processing plant in the Shawfield district of Rutherglen. They came to prominence in the 1930s and won the Third Division of the Scottish Amateur Football League in 1935–36, followed by the Second Division in 1936–37. For most of their history they played in blue. Another local team, ''Clyde Paper'' – based at a paper mill in the Farme Cross district – were also fairly successful in the amateur league in the same period. Shawfield Stadium
Shawfield Stadium is a closed greyhound racing, football and speedway venue in the Shawfield district of the town of Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire, Scotland, located close to the boundary with Glasgow. Originally a football ground, Shawfield was home to Clyde F.C. from 1898 to 1986. Greyhound racing was introduced in 1932, and the stadium hosted the Scottish Greyhound Derby from 1970 to 1985 and from 1989 to 2019. The Glasgow Tigers speedway team were also based there, from 1988 to 1995 and 1997 to 1998, with the Scottish Monarchs also racing there in 1996. Other sports including boxing and athletics were also staged at Shawfield. On 19 March 2020, an announcement was made to suspend racing because of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the following two years the majority of trainers moved their greyhounds to other venues as the track became derelict. Scottish Qualifying Cup
The Scottish Qualifying Cup was a football competition played in Scotland between 1895 and 2007. During that time, apart from a brief spell in the 1950s, it was the only way for non-league teams to qualify for the Scottish Cup. The Qualifying Cup was open to all full member clubs of the Scottish Football Association, who were not members of the Scottish Premier League or Scottish Football League. In June 2007 the Scottish Football Association announced a new format for the Scottish Cup from season 2007–08 that would allow all full member clubs direct entry into the competition and consequently the Qualifying Cup competition was scrapped.
