Shaun Leane
Shaun Leo Leane (born 20 August 1963 in Oakleigh, Victoria) is a Australian Labor Party (Victorian Branch), Labor Party politician and a current member for the Eastern Metropolitan Region in the Victorian Legislative Council, having been first elected in 2006. Leane has served as a member of both the Drugs and Crime Prevention Committee and the Road Safety Committee since 2007. In December 2018, he was elected as the President of the Victorian Legislative Council. In June 2020, he was made Minister for Local Government, Minister for Suburban Development and Minister for Veterans. In June 2022, he was appointed as Minister for 2026 Commonwealth Games, Commonwealth Games Legacy as well but relinquished his roles as local government and suburban development minister. In December 2022, after the 2022 Victorian state election, 2022 state election, Leane was removed from the upcoming cabinet by the caucus. The Labor Right, also known as Modern Labor, is a political faction of the Australian Labor Party (ALP) at the national level that is characterised by being more economically conservative and, in some cases, more socially conservative. The Labor Right is a broad alliance of various state factions and competes with the Labor Left faction. 2022 Victorian State Election
The 2022 Victorian state election was held on Saturday, 26 November 2022 to elect the 60th Parliament of Victoria. All 88 seats in the Legislative Assembly (lower house) and all 40 seats in the Legislative Council (upper house) were up for election at the time the writs were issued, however the election in the district of Narracan was deferred due to the death of a candidate. The second-term incumbent Labor government, led by Premier Daniel Andrews, won a third four-year term, defeating the Liberal/National Coalition opposition, led by Opposition Leader Matthew Guy, increasing their majority from their 2018 landslide election result.
