Shasta College
Shasta College is a public community college in Redding, California, with branch campuses in Burney, Weaverville, and Red Bluff. It was founded in 1950 and later moved to a much larger campus while the original campus became the new location of Shasta High School. Shasta College has approximately 8,865 students of all ages, including traditional college students, concurrently-enrolled high school students, older, re-entry students, and continuing education students who are simply taking classes for fun. The college has a wide variety of transfer-level and pre-transfer-level classes and programs as well as vocational programs. Many recent high school graduates attend the college in order to transfer to universities after two years. Though many students commute to the college from their homes, the college is one of the few California Community Colleges with a dormitory. Pearl Kiyawn Nageak Brower ( Inupiat, Middle names pronounced ''Qaiyaan Naġiaq'' in Iñupiaq) is an American academic administrator. She was president of Iḷisaġvik College from 2012-2020. Early life and education Brower was raised in Utqiagvik, Alaska and Northern California by a family of Iñupiat, Armenian, and Chippewa descent. Her Iñupiat grandmother served as an elected member of the North Slope Borough School Board and was an education advocate. Her maternal grandfather was a culture bearer who lived in the Alaska North Slope. Brower graduated from Shasta College. She completed two B.A. degrees in Alaska Native Studies and Anthropology in 2004. James Patrick Whalen Jr. (born December 11, 1977) is a former football tight end in the National Football League (NFL) for the Dallas Cowboys. He played college football at the University of Kentucky, and earned All-American honors. Early years Whalen attended La Salle High School in Milwaukie, Oregon.
