Sharp-SAT
In computer science, the Sharp Satisfiability Problem (sometimes called Sharp-SAT, #SAT or model counting) is the problem of counting the number of interpretations that satisfy a given Boolean formula, introduced by Valiant in 1979. In other words, it asks in how many ways the variables of a given Boolean formula can be consistently replaced by the values TRUE or FALSE in such a way that the formula evaluates to TRUE. For example, the formula a\lor \neg b is satisfiable by three distinct boolean value assignments of the variables, namely, for any of the assignments (a = TRUE, b = FALSE), (a = FALSE, b = FALSE), and (a = TRUE, b = TRUE), we have a\lor \neg b = \textsf. #SAT is different from Boolean satisfiability problem (SAT), which asks if there exists ''a solution'' of Boolean formula. Boolean Satisfiability Problem
In logic and computer science, the Boolean satisfiability problem (sometimes called propositional satisfiability problem and abbreviated SATISFIABILITY, SAT or B-SAT) asks whether there exists an Interpretation (logic), interpretation that Satisfiability, satisfies a given Boolean logic, Boolean Formula (mathematical logic), formula. In other words, it asks whether the formula's variables can be consistently replaced by the values TRUE or FALSE to make the formula evaluate to TRUE. The #P-complete problems (pronounced "sharp P complete", "number P complete", or "hash P complete") form a complexity class in computational complexity theory. The problems in this complexity class are defined by having the following two properties: *The problem is in #P, the class of problems that can be defined as counting the number of accepting paths of a polynomial-time non-deterministic Turing machine. *The problem is #P-hard, meaning that every other problem in #P has a Turing reduction or polynomial-time counting reduction to it. In Boolean algebra, a formula is in conjunctive normal form (CNF) or clausal normal form if it is a conjunction of one or more clauses, where a clause is a disjunction of literals; otherwise put, it is a product of sums or an AND of ORs. Horn-satisfiability
In formal logic, Horn-satisfiability, or HORNSAT, is the problem of deciding whether a given conjunction of propositional Horn clauses is satisfiable or not. Horn-satisfiability and Horn clauses are named after Alfred Horn. A Horn clause is a clause with at most one positive literal, called the ''head'' of the clause, and any number of negative literals, forming the ''body'' of the clause. A Horn formula is a propositional formula formed by conjunction of Horn clauses. Polynomial-time Approximation Scheme
In computer science (particularly algorithmics), a polynomial-time approximation scheme (PTAS) is a type of approximation algorithm for optimization problems (most often, NP-hard optimization problems). A PTAS is an algorithm which takes an instance of an optimization problem and a parameter and produces a solution that is within a factor of being optimal (or for maximization problems). In computer science and operations research, approximation algorithms are efficient algorithms that find approximate solutions to optimization problems (in particular NP-hard problems) with provable guarantees on the distance of the returned solution to the optimal one. Approximation algorithms naturally arise in the field of theoretical computer science as a consequence of the widely believed P ≠ NP conjecture.
