''Heart of a Dog'' (russian: links=no, italic=yes, Собачье сердце, Sobachye serdtse) is a novella by Russian author Mikhail Bulgakov. A biting satire of Bolshevism, it was written in 1925 at the height of the NEP period, when communism appeared to be relaxing in the Soviet Union. It is generally interpreted as an allegory of the Communist revolution and "the revolution's misguided attempt to radically transform mankind." Its publication was initially prohibited in the Soviet Union, but it circulated in samizdat until it was officially released in the country in 1987. It was almost immediately adapted into a movie, which was aired in late 1988 on First Channel of Soviet Television, gained almost universal acclaim and attracted many readers to the original Bulgakov text. ''The House of the Dead'' (russian: Записки из Мёртвого дома, ''Zapiski iz Myortvovo doma'') is a semi-autobiographical novel published in 1860–2 in the journal ''Vremya'' by Russian author Fyodor Dostoevsky. It has also been published in English under the titles ''Notes from the House of the Dead'', ''Memoirs from the House of the Dead'' and ''Notes from a Dead House'', which are more literal translations of the Russian title. The novel portrays the life of convicts in a Siberian prison camp. It is generally considered to be a fictionalised memoir; a loosely-knit collection of experiences, events and philosophical discussion based on Dostoevsky's experiences as a prisoner, organised around theme and character rather than plot. ''Three from Prostokvashino'' (russian: Трое из Простоквашино, r=Troye iz Prostokvashino) is a 1978 Soviet animated film based on the children's book '' Uncle Fedya, His Dog, and His Cat'' by Eduard Uspensky. The film has two sequels, ''Vacation in Prostokvashino'' (Каникулы в Простоквашино) (1980) and '' Winter in Prostokvashino'' (Зима в Простоквашино) (1984). The main character is a six-year-old boy who is called Uncle Fyodor (voiced by Maria Vinogradova) because he is very serious. After his parents don't let him keep the talking cat Matroskin (voiced by Oleg Tabakov), Uncle Fyodor leaves his home. Vostok (russian: Восток, translated as "East") was a class of single-pilot crewed spacecraft built by the Soviet Union. The first human spaceflight was accomplished with Vostok 1 on April 12, 1961, by Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin. The Vostok programme made six crewed spaceflights from 1961 through 1963. This was followed in 1964 and 1965 by two flights of Vostok spacecraft modified for up to three pilots, identified as Voskhod. Voskhod Spacecraft
The Voskhod (, ''"Sunrise"'') was a spacecraft built by the Soviet Union's space program for human spaceflight as part of the Voskhod programme. It was a development of and a follow-on to the Vostok spacecraft. Voskhod 1 was used for a three-man flight whereas Voskhod 2 had a crew of two. They consisted of a spherical descent module (diameter ), which housed the cosmonauts, and instruments, and a conical equipment module (mass , long, wide), which contained propellant and the engine system. Voskhod was superseded by the Soyuz spacecraft in 1967.
